can the testastretta in the 999R rev beyond 10,000 rpm? how far do u think it can go? can it rev as high as F1 cars, since it has no valve springs?

you want F1 car RPM levels go have a look at the 2006 Yamaha R6.

The testastretta uses desmodromics. I think the newest one hits the rev limit somewhere around 12k

It's rev limit is probably influenced more by the rotating mass more than valves floating. The new R6 uses valve springs and goes to 17k so it's obviously not springs holding it back. Considering the mass of 2 cylinders displacing 1 liter (bigger bore and longer stroke than a 4 banger) and you start to have problems with how much stress the rods can take slinging around like that.

the new R6 even sounds like an F1 car. quite the machine though I dont know how streetable 17,500 rpm is. would love to take one out on a track though

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure F1 cars redline around 28k or 30k rpms. Very small engines producing extreme amounts of power.

F1 cars are around 21-22k right now. It'll be a while before they hit 30k. Anyone heard any horsepower or speed readings on it yet?

the 999R puts out about 150hp and runs pretty even with the rest of the superbike pack.
An average F1 car during the 2005 season was putting out 900hp from a 3000cc V10
For '06 they are dropping to a 2.4L V8 and power is expected to drop a little to somewhere in the 800ish range.
Modern F1 engines spend most of their time between 14,000 and 18,000 RPM occasionally topping 20,000 RPM at the end of a major straight. This is coupled to a 7 speed constant mesh transmission (basically a car version of a motorcycle transmission).
They are currently the fastest and most powerful cars used in road racing.
odd thing is they rarely top 200mph during a race. Most modern race courses are set up to limit top speed for safety reasons.
Even the Legandary Mulsanne straightaway on the Circuit de la Sarthe (the course used for Le Mans) had chicaines put in after 1989 when a Sauber C9 GTP car hit 252mph during the race (this is the fastest speed ever recorded on a road racing course by any car)
