tire locks when push starting

When trying to push start my 82 maxim xj550 (push starting used to work) the rear tire locks up and skids to a stop as soon as I pop the clutch?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

try it with the bike in 2nd or 3rd gear. will make it easier.

uhhhh...is the engine locked up???

yeah...put it on the centerstand pull the sparkplugs put it in 5th gear and turn the back wheel.

When you bump start it try the old way of banging your body weight onto the saddle as you drop the clutch.
