First day of MSF BRC!!!
Damn what a rush!! Today was my first day actually operating a motorcycle, and although it was a little 250 Honda Rebel, it was AWESOME, to put it quite simply. It was the most fun i've ever had driving something with an engine and wheels. I think we ended up doing 4 hours of riding exercises today, and most of them i had already seen thanks to David Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling". It was cool.
I loved the cornering exercises, and we did practice the quick stop. I wish we would have done that more though...i did alright, but a couple of times rolled on the throttle as i squeezed the front brake. I did lock out the back tire twice too. But i know that's something i am going to practice every weekend. i had some trouble on the wide weaves, but did fine on the regular ones. overall, felt a lot more comfortable than i expected. I'm a little big for the bike, but nothing to complain about. only stalled once, because i forgot to turn the fuel valve to 'on' (idiot!). So yea, we're finishing up tomorrow, i'll let you know how it goes....

WOOHOOO, glad to hear you're having fun, wait until they start teaching countersteering. That's the exact second I fell in love.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

well, i passed. we were allowed to accrue up to 20 points overall on the test (it was scored like golf...the fewer the points, the better), and i got a 5 because my quick stop was five feet too long. but i scored perfect in the figure eight box, swerve, and cornering. and oh yea man, countersteering was sweet! i was so apprehensive about it because of what i'd read, but it was the first time in the course where i actually felt like i was riding a motorcycle. and we got to get some speed finally, so it was awesome.Sevulturus wrote:WOOHOOO, glad to hear you're having fun, wait until they start teaching countersteering. hopefully get a real used bike in a month or two...i have to finish moving out of my house first. haha my parents said that if i could afford a bike, i could afford to move out first....so i'm moving out.

When I took mine there was one girl who just wasn't getting countersteering, so the instructor threw her on the back of one of the dual sports put one of her hands on each of his elbows and proceded to scrape the pegs at 20km/h. I thought for sure they were going to dump. But no, it just kept going.

Congrads!
I remember the weekend that i took my class and i was buzzing for weeks!
During my class, it rained pretty hard and though it was kind of a bummer, we all need some experience in the rain!
I am still in the process of purchasing the bike, but i definitley know that riding a motorcycle is for me!
Glad you completed your class and did well!
Congrads and look forward to seeing ya on the road!

I had exactly the same score on the same excercise....I feel it came from overthinking and not wanting to hit the brakes early.......Shenanigans7 wrote: ................and i got a 5 because my quick stop was five feet too long. but i scored perfect in the figure eight box, swerve, and cornering. and oh yea man, countersteering was sweet!
Welcome to a whole new world!
