It seems in here there is a general disdain for commercialized pop music.

So I ask everyone, what type of music do you listen to?

My musical tastes are definately "Different". My preferred Genre is Goth or Industrial, with some Trance and House added for good measure. No I dont dress in all black or have any piercings.

Some of my favorite groups include The Cruxshadows, Front Line Assembly, Combichrist, Nightwish, Project Pitchfork, Kraftwerk, Paul Oakenfold

How do I pick just one of those? Disco and Gospel are the only ones on there that don't make it onto my playlist. And you've missed a fair number of genres that do.

I'll listen to most anything, but my preference is for stuff that most people I know have never heard of, or don't listen to. The more obscure the better. I don't intentionally avoid the good popular stuff out there, but I prefer to listen to different stuff.

Torn between classic rock and new rock as my favorite. So tough to decide!

I like most everything. Not a fan of popular music, but even some things that become popular aren't bad "just because" they are popular. I have in the past couple years became a very big Radiohead fan, but only recently have I moved beyond the three albums I knew very well. I have also become a recent fan of Queens of the Stoneage. I'm an old Pink Floyd fan and love King Crimson since I was a kid. I can't choose in the poll really. I mean, I love Johnny Cash, but hate most country. I dislike disco, but love some dance (house, trance, etc) music. Like I love The Orb for example. I don't know. I like what I like and that has no true catagory I guess. Big band and swing rules as does jazz and blues. I think the best answer is - I can't help ya here.

Like my old man, Scan, I can't pick a favorite category. My list favorites is huge. I will listen to just about anything once. One of my best memories was hanging out with some friends at their house when we lived in Chicago - they had these massive speakers set up in their kitchen (where most visits took place), and this one day they were playing Russian throat singing music. It was awesome!! These same friend also introduced me to PJ Harvey's music.

Music has always been a very big part of my life. I used to sneak my parents' albums into my room and play them on my battery operated Fisher Price turntable. I heard a lot of diverse music this way, including my Grandpa's big band stuff, and I've always enjoyed listening to as much music as I can get a hold of.

I suppose if I had to make a small list of current favorites it would look a bit like the following (in no special order):

Ani DiFranco, Radiohead, Suzanne Vega, Nine Inch Nails, Sublime, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Dead Kennedy's, Peter Gabriel, Jewel, Sex Pistols, Pink, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Kraftwerk, Joni Mitchell, Beck, Martin Sexton, Dead Can Dance, and just about anything on the Bloodshot Records label (psycho-billy music). The list really will get too long, so I should just stop. Also, Scan and I have friends who will send us mixed CDs without song lists, and we might not even know what it is that we're listening to - we only know if we like it or not.

Cheers,
Loonette

Depending on my mood, I listen to most everything. But preference goes to Rock, new and old.

I can't stand (C)rap and I only listen to Country if I'm suicidally depressed..... however Johnny Cash is and always has been dam good shiit. 8)

One thing I'm not looking forward to, is the upcoming barrage of X-mas music about to deluge the airwaves for a month......
