have icbc insurance question....icbc not the ones to ask !!

#1 Unread post by whozyomama »

Someone else had insured the bike I was riding and I am going to be insuring it myself in the spring.... (the bike was only insured for a few months, not a full year & person can't remember how much it was...)
I am thinking about getting a (80s - 2004) 250cc cruiser next spring....
I had asked ICBC agent how much to insure a 49cc scooter for the year (was quoted "somewhere around $1200 per year" ????)

1) How much does everyone pay for their bike insurance?
2) What area are you in (lower mainland, island, interior, etc...)
3) Does it make a difference in rates if you are a relatively new rider ?
4) What about if you have an (almost) perfect driving record with the
max discounts on your car - do you get discounts on bike insurance?
5) The bike wont have any fancy fairings, maybe some saddlebags and
a windshield.... do you have to have "extra" coverage?

Thank you.....

That's steep! :o

I pay about half that, for a 650 UJM, through Manitoba Public Ins (Autopac). True, it's an old bike and I do have a clean license and a number of years under my belt....

Mine would be $1200 or more for a full year. Yes I do get maximum discounts. Same rate as for a Car. My bike however is a 900cc and no collision. I have a 1981 bike that will qualify for collectors insurance as of Jan 1, 2006. I am anticipating a rate of about $150 for the year with that (650cc) I think I'm a gonna sell my Harley LOL too much to insure.

I'm on the island.

I realize this thread is a bit old, but perhaps someone is still looking for information. And, as the past owner of a 49cc Vino, I feel qualified to answer.

The insurance for my 49cc was $400 for the year (2004 & 2005 for a 2005 model year). It was a standard package - no extra benefits (additional comprehensive eg) available.

When I went up to my 125cc Vino, my insurance doubled to $800 a year - thank goodness for AutoPlan 12!

I do not call ICBC for rates for insurance. Always call your local broker, and call several for competing quotes. The best rates for M/C insurance seems to be Megson Fitzpatrick - however you must have been riding for at least 1 year.

Hope this is of some help to someone! :D
Beep-beep! Vino 125 comin' thru!

In New Brunswick it cost me $225 to insure my 2006 yamaha bw. I only get my bike license next week so this was based on my car license which is spotless.
Oh Canada, riding along the New Brunswick coastline.
