Pearl Harbor Day

#1 Unread post by ejshotgun »

All citizens should devote some portion of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to solemn contemplation of the selfless sacrifice made by those who gave their lives for their country in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The flag of the United States shall fly at half-staff each December seventh in honor of the individuals who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbour?

#4 Unread post by Bubba »

Hell most people have forgotten 9/11 let alone remember Pearl Harbour.
The way the people of this country act you would think all those men DID die in vain. Wouldn't want to interupt their reality show watching and their text messaging. If you don't think about it, it never happened.
You've heard about the fall of the Roman Empire. We're watching the fall of the American Empire and no one gives a damn.

If you have ever watched Jay Leno's "Man on the street" segments, you get an inkling of the level of mentality all too prevalent in the US today. He asks people, usually young, simple questions about people, places or things from history or even current news, and most of the responders have no clue. Whan the question was asked "Who is buried in Grant's tomb", the kid gave the wrong answer. Many do not know who John Kennedy was, much less that he was assassinated, and don't know who the current vice president is. Many also claim to have never heard of the WWII holocaust. Amazing.

The sad part is that the viewers think it's funny. A bunch of spoiled individuals.

That's funny because up here in Canada we get a show once a year called, Rick Mercer's talking to Americans, where he wanders down through the states talking to all sorts of people about basic Canadian facts, like the double double being when the parliament is split 50/50, or the clubbing of baby arctic seals in Saskatchewan. The State of Alberta is going to be taken over by Saskatchewan (that was especially funny when the mothers 10 year old son said that "they have provinces in Canada." And on and on and on. The point I'm trying to make here is that it is SOOO easy to only show what they want you to see. Rick Mercer was wandering around Harvard, Yale, andmany other Ivy League colleges, talking to proffesors and stuents, yet they all seemed to have stupid responses.

As far as Pearl Harbor day, my thoughts and feelings go out to the people who died there. And I personally hope that we've learned something from this, when fighting a war no one ever truely wins.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
