Well its finally sitting in my garage. My very first bike. A 1980 Honda CX500C. Took a little while longer than anticipated to get it, but still very worth it.

now just need the snow to go away so I can ride it.

Congratulations on your recent acquisition . having it just sitting and being only able to look at it must be driving ya nuts . I know it would me .
I have a brother-in-law and his family living in Torrington . Seems to me it is a very small town in the southern part of your state .

Torrington is about 80 miles from me. I have a close friend who lives there.

Its small with about 3000 residents but not small by wyoming standards.

Cheyenne is the largest town in the state at 55,000 residents.

There are a few things I plan on doing to the bike soon like removing the huge fairing that now graces its front (old vetter fairing), and the sissy bar that keeps catching my leg when I get on the bike needs to go too.

It runs like a champ with zero hesitation once warmed up. I worked the clutch while sitting to get a feel for its friction zone and its very smooth (much smoother on the clutch than the bike I took the MSF course on). The body is in great shape though according to the person I bought it from it had suffered a couple of minor drops and it does have some minor rash on the ends of the levers and the engine gaurds. It has the CX500 specific engine gaurds that go around the cylinder heads.

The tires are nearly new, not even enough wear on the center to have discernable chicken strips. So I expect them to be a little slick until they are scrubbed in.

Sounds awsome, I hope it clears up soon so you can start laying down some miles on it.

Its supposed to clear up this weekend. Hopefully all the snow melts and it gets warm enough to at least go for a short ride.

The nice thing about Wyomings unpredictable winters is that there are many days in the middle of the winter that you can ride. you can get 50 degrees and sunny one day and a blizzard the next day here. We also usually have a nice spell during January and february, and get most of our snow in march. We usually have our worst cold spells in December (high was 33 today but high yesterday was 0, and it was below zero for most of the week)

looks like its going to be in the 40s and sunny this weekend. So might do a few short rides (after I take a trip in the cage to buy a lid). Found a helmet that fits good so am going to pick it up tomorrow.

Yeah, the idea of riding without a helmet really scares me.

All we get during the winter here in Florida is rain. Lousy stinking rain. It seems we've had more rain this fall & winter than we did during the proper wet season.

I'm sitting here watching the weather radar at weather.gov waiting patiently for this squall line to pass over. it .... is .... CRAWLING.

On a side note. I wrote a weather app that feeds from NOAA's site a few years ago when I bought my Jeep. I got sick and tired of being stuck under an overpass when the thunderstorms blew in. I use this on my Treo 600 cellphone.

Right now I've only got a few choice cities listed in it ( US only ) but they're terribly easy to add.

I'm even working on a proximity alert using cron and imagemagick which will send me an SMS message when a storm is coming at me. The GPS features of my phone are decent enough to pull basic coords & send them back to the processor on my server.

Perhaps someone might find this little app useful, I know it's saved me countless times.

Hey congrats on the new bike. You should get some days this winter to ride. I lived in Casper for 15 years and usually managed some riding time in the winter. Just don't travel too far because the weather can change in a heartbeat up there.
