first let say hello to every one, Im new here since today and im glad i found this forum.
i got a probleme yesterday, i start my bmw 75rt and let warm it up, when i got a phone call, and i completly forgot the bike.
so when i go back the cooling liquide was boilling and the overheating light was of course red. so i stop it. took of the fairing,
then i check the level in the radiator, had to put some but not much, the water from the expension tank was gone, etc.
later i started the bike and after a while the overheating light came red again.
why is the light came red now. what damage can cause the overheating light to go red?

i would like to fixe it myself if i can.

You might not have enough coolant in it after just topping up the overflow bottle. Even if the rad looks full, you could still have an airlock in the cooling system. Try filling it, running it for a short time, give the bike a good shake and bounce if you can, rev it up and down a bit.... don't redline it or anything, and shut it down before it gets really hot. Wait until your sure it's safe, then recheck the coolant level.

I don't know about your bike exactly, but ussually if there is an area on an engine that is likely to catch air in the system, they design in some sort of a vent to bleed it off. It could be a simple screw or bolt or some type of an actual valve. It will be located in the highest spot that can trap air, *IF* present. A good service manual would have an info on this possibility.

thank you, i am going to try again and take my time to make sure they is no air inside, i will tell if it is working,
you gave me hope that is not so bad.
i have checked the book about it and they dont talk about a screw or somthing to bleed. they just say to watch until you don't see bubles. i remembered seeing some bubles some time, and i remember when i accelarated the engine that the water go down and i had to add more cooling. so i guess they still have some bubles.
