hey everyone, i have a question..

i have a 94 kawasaki vulcan 500... it has 10.1 ORIGINAL miles on it.. it was bought for my x stepfather as his first bike.. he rode it 3 miles dumped it, drained it and parked it and never touched it again.... the tank was repaired, and there are only MINOR scratches on the bike, that you have to really look for to notice... no rust, the carbs were purged, the tires are just like they were brand new, all of the hoses n tubes are in perfect condition, im trying my hardest to sell it...

it TECHNICALLY is not running, and hasnt since it was brand new.. its been garage kept the entire time, and should be no problem to get running... i at first asked 3500 expecting people to talk me down to 3 or at the very lowest 2500.. i mean come on.. its a NEW BIKE practically.. the engine isnt even broken in... but people are offering me 300 400 and 500 dollars for it.......

am i unreasonable to ask 2500 for this bike in its current condition??????

i can part it out and sell the engine for more than 500.

thx in advance for the info

I'd get it running. A bike you discribe that is actually running is alot different then one that isn't.

hmm

this is true... however, im not sure how much it will cost to get running.. it if costs me 500 to get it running, and i can only get 500 more out of it, im not sure what the point is....

the main problem people have mentioned is that its "only" a 500

sure its not a 1300cc hyabusa, but... its definitely not a little beginers bike either. man, just rolling it down the driveway was scary for me, its ackward as hell and VERY imballanced..

in running condition how much do you think i could get for it,

vs what people are offering me now...

It would make a good first bike for someone.

Definately get it running. Why not ride it yourself? Unless of course you already have a different bike.

REPLACE THE TIRES if you are going to ride it. the sitting around has likely caused them to harden and crack.

Replace all the fluids and clean the carbs. this should get it running. Oh and make sure the battery is good.

The bike is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Realistically, you are not selling a brand new bike, you're selling a 12 yr. old bike that has been in storage and is not currently running.

If it's not running, potential buyers have no way of knowing what could be wrong with it and they're going to offer you bottom dollar. Bikes can deteriorate to junk just from sitting for years. At the very least, the tires are junk and need to be replaced.

If you should restore it to good running condition, you might possibly get $1,500-1,900 if it's really cherry. Unless you run across a buyer who has no idea what they're doing (always a possibility) it's unlikely you'll ever get $2,500 for a 12 year old Vulcan 500. The used motorcycle market says it's just not worth that much. Check Ebay and see what equivalent bikes have been selling for. Keep in mind that the difference between 10 miles and 10,000 miles on the odometer, doesn't mean that much on a bike of that age.
