WHat's up with these things? I just bought a bike that came with it, and up till that time I had no idea what they were about. Hell, I still can't seem to find anything definitive on them. Many people say they're a waste of money and just look perty. Others swear by an increase in power. I've never ridden a bike before and after installation of one of these, so I can't judge it.

Have any of you had any experiences with them?

With the hypercharger you get more air, which means the carbs get re-jetted, that probably means more fuel, net result is an increase in power... Does it work??? I don't know, but they sure look purdy...lol.

It's sort of a "ram air" system similar to the one used on the Yamaha V-Max. They're quite effective at increasing power if used in conjunction with a proper rejet (carb) or remap (fuel inj) and a free-flow exhaust, otherwise it's just another shiny trinket.

For some, yes, but I'm not really into chrome. But I've lost count of how many of these hyperchargers I've seen on Harleys, Yammie Road Stars, Kawi Vulcans, Honda VTX 1800's, etc, etc. In pretty much all cases there were no exhaust mods to compliment the increased airflow. Well, except for one VTX1800 - but it was hellaciously LOUD with its Hard Chrome Kickers.

Why go for substance when you can go for shiny?

Contrary to popular belief, The hypercharger from Kuryakyn doesn't "Ram" air into the intake. It increases airflow across the filter surface providing better air to fuel mixture and results in an increase of appx. a 12% horsepower gain across the Dyno. It can do this without a pipe change. The first thing you should do is pull the vaccum line from the lower center of the backing plate, put your finger over the fitting on the plate and your butterfly should partially close "if" the Hypercharger is working properly. If it doesn't contact Kuryakyn's tech department thru their website at www.kuryakyn.com, they have an 800 number.

My opinions have never been popular. I said "sort of" like a ram air system because the hypercharger has the intakes pointed directly into the wind to take advantage of the extra air forced into it at speed. Not a true "ram air" system, I know, but somewhat similar to it.

Anyway, it is true that no exhaust mods need to be made after installing one but it does require a rejet/remap in order to function properly. I think it a little odd to modify the intake without matching the exhuast to it, though.
