1. my measurements are a combination of the smallest and the next size larger to it. will choosing the larger of the two be the better choice?

2. what's the advantage/disadvantage of having 1 piece/2 piece?

3. is joe rocket a decent brand?

Maybe, maybe not. The best gear is the gear that fits well along with being high quality. The best thing would be to get a 2 piece that fits that can zip together in the back. If you're worried about them seperating when sliding on your back, get a jacket without back protection and get a spine protector. This way, if the zipper does fail, and the jacket rides up, you'll be sliding on the spine protector.

1 piece DOES offer the best protection of all the gear, but it can be a hassle i'd imagine. Would you REALLY want to be completely covered in leather in the middle of the summer? With a two piece you can alternate between a mesh or leather jacket. Also, would you always go through the trouble of wearing the 1 piece all the time.

Yes

If track days are in your future, i'd say start with a 2 piece and once you start hitting the track, get a 1 piece specifically for days you go to the track,

Go 2 piece for street riding. Get a jacket and pants that zip together to make a one piece. Gives you almost as much protection as a 1 piece for canyon carving and the occasional track day and you can run with just the jacket and jeans for a trip down the block or commuting to work, or even get a pair of overpants that go over your normal pants.

If your wanting something a bit more everyday friendly you might look into a pair of Draggin Jeans (reinforced jeans for riding), icon also makes armored jeans.

I've got a pair of barrier jeans from Icon which I love. Though they might be a little hot for your neck of the woods. It's bloody cold up here.

i'll get those instead of the track suit... i'll just buy a 1 piece when im ready for the tracks.

i like this one... what do you guys think about this

so im planning on getting a draggin jean and that jacket... will that be a good gear for the streets? im don't plan on taking freeways for a long time.

oh i think i should get some armored gloves and boots as well. any recommendations?

I thought kevlar wasn't all too great unless combined with another material?
