Last year, I bought a Digi-Key P231-ND maintenace-free battery and have a battery charger I got with my 1995 K-75. It is a BMW charger, Model No 95 61 1 250 500. Can I charge the maintnance-free Digi-Key battery with the BMW charger, connected through the power outlet on the bike, or do I have to connect to the battery direct? If connected direct. does the battery have to be out of the bike?
Apply the same questions to use of a Schumacher trickle charger.

Thanks.

Charging it throgh the power adapter outlet is fine, there's no need to hook it direct to the battery because the power outlet IS hooked direct to the battery already. The outlet should have an inline fuse on it, my guess is somewhere around 15 amps, and your battery charger will draw way below that (usually around the 750 milliamp range) so you needn't worry about melted wires or anything. The electrical info should be printed on your Beemer battery charger somewhere, check it to make sure. The battery doesn't have to be removed from the bike, either. I have a Battery Tender Junior that I've adapted to plug into the 12V outlet I installed on my Ural, it keeps the maintenance-free gel battery at full charge all the time with no troubles.
