Motorcycle license and moving

#1 Unread post by Guinness »

I currently live in VA and plan on moving to NC in the next couple of months. But I am going to try and take the MSF class in Va beforehand. Will I need to take a new driving test in NC or will my license be transferable just like an automobile license?

If you get your full endoresement, it will transfer. If you move and you only have a learner's permit, you will probably have to apply for a new permit in your new state.

If you are taking the MSF course in VA, just go the same or next day to the DMV to get your license. Licenses are definitely transferable.

Thanks for the info, I just wanted to be sure. Someone else brought up a good point about fees in different states. In VA it costs $90 to take the MSF class. I tried to find the cost for NC without success. Does anyone know the cost in NC? Also, are there usually long waiting lists there as well? Thanks again.

It may depend on where in NC you are, but I took the course a few months ago at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh and it was $120. I registered in early June and it was full until the first week in October. Payment had to accompany registration and it was not refundable for any reason.

See the NC DMV website at http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/ for lots of details about requirements, though I'm not sure if it will answer your specific question.
