Semi-New Rider

First of all I just want to say hello to everyone here, I have been reading these forums for some time now, and decided I wanted to get involved instead of watching from the window.
I have a little bit of riding under my belt, but not much. I used to have a Honda Rebel 250 that I learned on. I have already been through the MSC, and when I had my Rebel I rode for about 3 months solid. However all that was about 2 years ago, and I really haven't been on one since. I have been looking at the V-Star classic 650's and love the look and feel of them, I have sat on them but not ridden one. I'm ready to go this week and ride one off the showroom floor, but wanted to get opinions on wether or not this might be too much bike for me. When I had the Rebel, I got really bored with it very quick, but I didn't know if a 650 might be too much of a jump, thanks and sorry for the length.
