Screwed Up Bigtime Today

#1 Unread post by BuzZz »

I hate this time of year......

Had to take the wife into the city for a doc appointment today. No problem, right? Well crazy donkey me stopped at Argyll Motoporn... and I didn't leave her in the truck. Bad move.

They got this sweet little SV-650 on the floor... leftover '04, Yosh system, Renthal Fatbar, handguards and a few trinkets, tank protector, frame sliders, snazzy grips, ect....... and it's bright yellow. And it's priced at 8 grand, I could get it for 7500 with a little talking, maybe less..........

If my wife could pitch a tent, she would have. No problem, aside from being brand new, it would make her an excellent bike......

But....

I'm a nice guy and all, and I'm all for Lana getting off the back of my bike and onto her own, but I am honest enough with myself to know I couldn't stand her riding beside me on a bike I liked more than the one I was on.

And this little SV might be a bike like that....... :?

So now I am actually considering both the SV and, oh, I dunno, maybe an FZ-1 or SV thou..... though both would need a few hundred bucks in bars and such first..... I'm still thinking about it.

And Lana ain't helping. Everytime I come up with a reason we shouldn't drop all that coin, she shoots it down. WTF? That's all backwards. I'm the one who goes and buys chit and she's the one who stops me. She ain't playing fair. Now what???

Lord hep me, I hope I can stand this till spring hits and I can ride again. Much easier to resist the urge when I'm already riding a perfectly good bike.......
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

Just get the SV you idiot!

It's not like you won't be able to swap rides. Sheesh.

P.S., have your wife call mine please.

Hmmm, what you need to do is... hmmmm, you know it's like +3 out during the day, go out sit on the bike bike and vroom vroom noises.

Actually what you want to do is sign her up for the MSF, so she doesn't drop YOUR nice yellow SV while she's learning. She'll decide that she hates it and you'll be all set.

Speaking of which, I'll bet money you could find a very nice used SV in yellow at a good price.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Yep that's what I said to myself too.... at first. Then I looked over at Lana and remembered..... oh yeah, dat ain't gonna fly. My sliver of the bed, my 1/2 cushion on the couch, the 20 bucks of each check she lets me keep....I'd be lucky to sneak it out of the garage when she's asleep one a month.

Seriously, I am still trying to explain to her why she can't learn on the FJ and keep it while I get a new bike. She's all for that. But there's no way in hell I'm turning her loose on anything(else) that big, purple and throbbing. The one item matching that description that I let her ride now makes her eyes roll back in her head, that FJ will waste her!

That boring huh?

Seriously, can't we find a nice used SV somewhere that she can customize bit by bit as she figures out what she wants?

I'm supposed to go look at cruisers with a friend tomorrow, I'll keep my eyes open for a thou or 650 for a decent price.

Yee-Haw!!! :smoke:

You're a lucky man, Buzz. This is only a slight dilemma. Maybe take a brief look around for a used model, as Sev mentioned, but if you're both feeling positive about the bike, then buy it. Scan and I have made some poor financial choices along the way, and it's usually on purchases like, um, bikes. In the end, though, we have no real regrets. And if our money (or other life) woes get us down, then we have the best remedy sitting right outside - a ride on the bike(s) that we purchased out of pure lust. You can learn to share the SV. And one day your wife will handle the FJ with utter grace. Imagine future road trips with you and your wife being able to swap out rides once in awhile. What fun!

Good luck!! Keep us informed.

Cheers,
Loonette

I say, you should pause and cellibrate the fact that she can't :P

Why does this sound soooo familiar????....oh yeah, the same thing happened to me at the same time last year..... and you know how that ended.....

You're done. When these opportunites arrise, don't let the door slam in your face while you are getting you are looking through the screen. Think about it: "Honey, how can you expect me to ride this old piece of chit while you are cruising on a nice new Suzuki (that moves under it's own power and EVERYTHING!)?" You are in a win-win situation. It's only money. The bank has lots of it.

Just Do It!

After almost 12 year of marriage, I know not to argue with my wife. Especially when she's in favor of better things than I suggested! I was looking at buying a used bike of some kind. She flat out refuses saying, "If you're going to buy a motorcycle, you're buying a brand new one." :woot: So, I start pricing out a Suzuki GZ250 or other 250 bike because of the lower cost. She's been going with me to the dealers and watching me drool. The other day she says, "You should just get a bigger bike to start with so that you don't want something new in a year or so." Last week, I go to a local Moto Guzzi shop to see what they have in stock. He shows me a Hyosung cruiser. Nice bike but, not what I want. He tells me that he's going to be getting a Breva and a Nevada soon and, he'll give me a call. He then shows us his custom Guzzi Chopper....
( :kewl: http://www.csonline.net/monacocstguzzi/ ... mages.html )
As we're leaving the shop she says, I really liked him. You're going to buy a bike from him if you can aren't ya? :spaz:

Long story short... Just Do It! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Accept the gifts that are given to you! etc etc etc....

Me thinks you have a good life insurance policy that your wifey has her eyes on.

Next she'll say "Why take the MSF? Just learn on your own!" "Why buy gear when you can ride in shorts and a t-shirt?" "That helmet just looks silly, take it off!" and finally, "Why dont you see how fast your bike will go today."

And she's already got her eyes on another guy!

I hope my spouse (when I get one, I'm 18 and in no rush) is that supportive, though.
Have fun on the open /¦\
