Gas to carbs...

The magna is all setup and ready to go. Old 3 year old gas gone, inline fuel filter in place, carbs cleaned, new spark plugs, compression in specs and I'm ready to have the damned thing running. However, gas doesn't want to get to the carbs.

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the 85 magna v30 but it has a primary fuel tank in teh normal place and a secondary fuel tank under the seat. The primary feeds directly to the secondary that leads to the petcock also under the seat before the gas is sent along a long fuel line all the way to the carbs.

Do I have to prime the line somehow?

Check your vent hoses, fuel cap, and [if equipped] the vacuum line going to the petcock. If the fuel tank(s) cannot draw in fresh air through the vent lines and/or the fuel cap, the fuel will not flow. And if you have a vacuum-actuated petcock and the vacuum is not present, same thing.

The petcock only has one hose so I'm assuming that it has no vaccum tube. I'll check the vent hoses and try with the fuel cap open maybe?

That's a start. I'm assuming you've drained the gas on that bike before. If so, did it drain out through the petcock alright? Is the line between the two tanks kinked or clogged?

Nope, first time draining gas on the bike, but I know the lines aren't cut off because I puffed some air down the fuel line to the carbs with the old bike pump and felt it come out the secondary tank alright. Took no effort to push the pump either. I would have pulled them all and checked but the fuel lines are just so damned hard to get to I would have had to remove a few things just to get to them. Not nearly as easy as the Old Yamaha's or Kawasaki I have but I'm told the Magna will be worth it in the end.

If it draws fuel from the lower tank, it is very possible it uses a fuel pump. Unless the bottom of that lower tank is above the carbs..... fuel ain't gonna flow uphill.

If such is the case, your pump may be puked...?

The fuel pump needed to be rewired. OR one had been cut somehow, road shrapnel?

Anyway- fuel is good to go.

Glad to hear it!

Good call, BuzZz!
