Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About
Any one else read this book? I'm on chapter seven of the book and became a member of his website. Just wondering if anyone else has read it and, if so, what sort of results have you had?
Loonette? Anyone?

Quote from his book cover. Seems like a useless book to me, probably filled with misinformation and conspiracy theories.Learn the secret to losing weight without crazy diets or exercise.
But there ARE natural remedies for most things. Those natural remedies are from what most drugs are derived. Concentrated and in pill form. Its easier for me to take a tylenol than brew up some medicine my like great grandmother could. More expensive? Sure...but we pay for the convenience. Conspiracy? Bleh. It probably has a few good tips in it but mostly junk to engage the reader and sell books.
Who's making money off of who now? hehe.

This prolific infomercial dude is a twice convicted felon including a couple of jail sentences for bank and credit card fraud. If you want to give him your credit card number that's your business. Quackwatch.org says ""I don't think I've ever seen a book that has more ridiculous information,". He uses Tammy Faye Baker on some of his infomercials - go check out infomercialscams.com and read some testimonies by cancer patients who've tried his regimen. Before he became a medical expert he sold some program to make you have a super memory. I don't trust the drug companies as far as I can throw them, but this guy is nothing but a first-rate con man.

I had heard the guy speak before on the radio when we lived in Chicago (not sure why I was even listening to the radio - Chicago radio is a bit better than anything around these parts, I suppose). Anyway, I didn't pay that close attention to him - it sounded so much like an info-mercial, I just had to turn it off. And I have never heard his name or material mentioned in any of the holistic circles that I consider well-respected, so I'm not entirely sure of what his main motive is in selling his information. Also, at the time when I did hear him on the radio, I had already come to the conclusion that there is a deep rooted problem with modern "medicine". My kids have not been vaccinated, we're not pill poppers, and I tend to shy away from any easy answer that is offered up by a doctor. But I'm the queen of scrutiny, so I question just about everything.
And I'll tell you - all this hype about the Bird Flu is just another way to line the pockets of the drug companies. Our federal government (including press conferences by President Bush, whether it's because of his own ignorance or through his need to help supply funding for the drug companies) helps to create hysteria regarding the flu every year. Yes, yes, I know - the flu can and does kill many people worldwide every year. But the kicker is this - the "vaccines" that they create for the flu are virtually useless. By the time they devise one, it's too late - we're on to the next new strain of the flu for which they have not even developed a vaccine. People would be much more wise to put down their alcohol, cigarettes and junk food, take a long walk every day and adopt a more healthy lifestyle. But most folks just want the easy way out. Sorry for the rant...
If you're looking for sound advice on natural living and healing, a good read is anything by Dr. Andrew Weil. This guy started his career in medicine in the typical fashion, but through his studies with more indigenous peoples around the world, he realized that there was a plethora of natural alternatives for a long healthy life. And for women... Dr. Christiane Northrup is a good read. Not so heavy on alternative medicine, but great ideas on how to avoid the Western pitfalls of medical care (like our outrageous C-section rate in this country). Also, a great general guide to just about everything is a two book series - "Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child" and "Smart Medicine for Healthier Living". Both books offer a wide range of care choices for just about any ailment. They even offer conventional treatment ideas, but best of all they include nutritional, homeopathic, herbal, acupuncture, Bach Flower and general care remedies for these ailments. Fabulous books, really.
Thanks for sparking up a topic about which I am truly passionate. However, I have a brunch date to get to. Later!!
Cheers,
Loonette

Apparently the infomercial dude tries to create the idea that Dr. Andrew Weil is a proponent of his. Weil (who actually studied medicine while this other dude was in jail or cooking up another get-rich quick scheme) denies it. Sorry to be so rough on the guy... but he's a proven scammer and he preys on the old and the sick. Any tool that can look cancer patients in the eye and tell them he has a cure should be under the jail.

Last time I checked the pharmacutical companies weren't pressuring me into buying medicine because of the bird flu. The media is hyping it because danger sells airtime, nothing more.
I'm not a fan of 'alternative' medicine because there's no real (read: scientific) studies on whether it works, just 'personal testimonials' and useless coorelations.
On one hand, you have drug companies selling you potential cures to your ills, and on the other you have a salesman selling you a book with potential cures to your ills...whats the difference?

I think there's lots of legitimate homeopathic remedies for some things (who hasn't put an aloe plant on a burn? - it works!) and I think there's some legitimate benefits to some herbal regimens and acupuncture and massage, etc. I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water. I know for a fact that yoga has done wonders for my back. And there's documented proof of malfeasance on the part of several drug companies... as well as the makers of untested, unregulated 'supplements'. None of that changes the fact that this guy has a history of being a crook and has nothing in his resume that makes him qualified to render a medical judgement on anything. Lots of the 'scientists' he quotes in his book wanted nothing to do with him when questioned independently. He searched time and again for someything to dupe people with and he finally found it. Drugs are overprescribed - no doubt about it. But that doesn't mean some of them don't work wonders. If it works, then an independent study can reproduce the effects time and again in a blind study. I agree that the medical industry has lots of problems and that the rx industry has many unscrupulous practicioners. Unfortunately the dude who wrote this book doesn't have the answers.

That would be cash money. Nothing wrong with that - I like to make money too. I just prefer to make it from means other than selling the proverbial bag of magic beans to people dying of cancer.Loonette wrote:I have never heard his name or material mentioned in any of the holistic circles that I consider well-respected, so I'm not entirely sure of what his main motive is in selling his information.

How to lose weight.
1) Eat a little less then you normally do
2) Exercise a little more then you normally do
Either one of these will work by themselves, but a small reduction in intake of calories combined with a slight increase of exercise will see you shedding pounds, safely and effectively. And you'll keep it off.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Well, like Loonette, I too am a skeptic and certainly read the information with a grain of salt. However, most if not all of what he claims in the book are conclusions I myself have reached over the years. Americans continue getting fatter and sicker each and every year, yet we have (and take) the most medicine and have the largest selection of so-called "diet" foods in the world. After reading seven chapters so far, he hasn't tried to sell a single thing nor recommend any specific brand name. He simply recommends things like yoga, chiropractic adjustments, water purifiers (to remove the dangerous and deadly chlorine and flouride), juicing, kosher meats, and eating organic foods that aren't chemically processed or fertilized. According to the FDA, the only things that can cure or prevent disease are drugs, and anyone caught claiming otherwise faces stiff penalties and jail time. However, we all know that scurvy can be cured by eating citrus fruit. And the aloe example was a good one, too.
In any case, I appreciate the input. I'm not here to defend the guy, though I will say a person's past isn't an automatic indication of their motives, in my opinion. I'd still like to hear from anyone who's actually read the book and done any of the recommended things, and would also like to hear from anyone who already eats only organic foods and juices and only eats kosher meats. I'm not in all that bad a shape, and I certainly wouldn't consider myelf sick (I barely ever get sick and I don't see the doctor more than once a year), but growing up I watched my mom suffer through countless illnesses and watched the medical community prescribe more and more drugs to counter all the side effects caused by the previous prescriptions. After my mom and dad moved to Arizona and started hiking daily, she stopped taking ALL of her medications, some which the doctors claimed she would need for the rest of her life to live, and hasn't gone back on any since. At one point she was on more than a dozen medications that rendered her bed-ridden during most of my childhood. Unfortunately, I have inherited quite a few of her ailments (fibromyalgia, arthritus, mitral valve prolapse) but am determined not to let them do what they did to my mother, especially since I'm a single father.
