ways to secure my bike?

I just moved into a place more in the city...and I need some sort of alarm/security device.

I think the cheapest solution would just be to get a big chain and lock and chain the back wheel to a tree next to the sidewalk right outside my windown...how effective would this be?

I've looked into other alarms...from 80 bucks up to 300...I wanted to spend only around or less than 100 bucks for my security system...any suggestions.?

If someone wants your bike badly enough they'll get it no matter what you have. Big chain and a lock + a cover will be the easiest way to deter the casual moron walking by. Make sure you have theft insurance on your bike though, just in case.

You can get a rotwieller for around $250 but it has monthly maintenace charges. However, it's the only system I know that keeps away 99.9% of theives. My old remington pump action 12 guage that my stepdad has recorded and set to go off whenever anyone opens a window or tries to pick his garage lock works 100% of the time

What about a disk alarm? If you move the bike, the alarm screams!
