A buddy of mine is torn between the honda st1300 and the yamaha fjr1300.
What are your opinions on either bike or which one do you think is the better of the two? He plans on using the bike for long touring trips. He already has a Warrior for other type riding.

I think the st1300 leans more towards the touring side of the sport-touring equation. the FJR leans more towards the sport side.

Mostly just a matter of personal preference.

The ST is kinda like a mini goldwing

The FJR is like a comfy sportbike.

My Uncle's friend has a FJR1300, and having sat on the bike I can tell you it's one hell of a bike.

The FJR just says "ride me" better than that sporty goldwing.

After looking at the two I can see why your friend is Stumpped!

Before I did a little research I was thinking the Yamaha because it was cheaper but looking online the price difference is only $500.00. Personally if I were in his shoes I would go with the Honda simply because I trust Honda quite a bit.

Check the weight. I think the Honda is significantly heavier, like 100 lbs, than the Yamaha.

I think the profile and those saddlebags make the Honda a winner for me.

I have ridden both and can tell you that the FJR has the pan beaten on all aspects bar pillion comfort. The yammie is a helluva fun bike to ride and suprises all and sundry who think it is a tourer. It can, but is also at home on the track. Nearest competitor would be the ST Triumph 1050

Both are great bikes, but they feel quite different to sit on. Have him go sit on one at the dealership, maybe one will feel more comfortable than the other?

He will most likley spend a lot of time on it, and probably should go with the one that fits hime best...
