Forward controls on a cruiser

Hi, I am getting my bike any day now... a 2006(or maybe 2005) Vstar650. But the one thing that is bothering me about it is that the floor-boards are too far back... I'm a tall guy(6'5") and in the stock configuration, my knees are up above the tank, and I am a little cramped... if only I could move the controls forward a bit!
I was googling such a device, and found a few different ones, some just moved the floorboards/brake/shifter forward 3" or so, while others completely replaced the controls with some crazy, chromed-out contraption w/pegs.
My question is this:
a) is it legal to move controls forward like this? how far is too far?
b)should I keep the stock floorboards and shift them forward, or get the replacements... will pegs work better for my long legs?
c)anyone done this conversion? can someone recommend a kit?
thanks all!

I take it you are talking about the Classic model. Did you try the Custom model?, it has pegs mounted a bit more forward and will allow you to stretch out a bit.

I should have mentioned that I won this bike in a raffle at a motorcycle show. It is the style and size that I was planning on buying anyway... so I'm happy that way... but it also means that this is what I have to work with, so no shopping around! I'm not sure if it's a 2006 or 2005...

Hmm.. am I the only one with this problem? Just so people don't think I'm crazy, here are some links to the products in question.
This one moves the OEM controls forward:

This is an example of a total replacement:

The floorboards will be more comfortable on a long haul. When you sit on the bike, move your feet foward 3 inches and see if it helps.

6'5" on a V-Star 650......I vote for the full forward contols. There are no laws against such devices.

You're saying scrap the floorboards? that was my first impression too. they seem comfortable, but they hold your feet a little too flat. if only there was a way to lean them back a bit.
The full replacements ranged in price, but they are all pretty damn expensive... 300-800 USD!
I tell you, this world is not built for tall people.(and I have the scars on my scalp to prove it)

ZooTech is right, move them as far forward as you can to make yourself comfortable. I have pegs on my Harley and wish I had floorboards most of the time but then I'm only 6'.

The dealer already had extensions on mine, but it's not the full out, forward controls with the pegs and everything. It looks like a bracket kit that just moved the OEM controls forward 4".
Have you looked on Yamahahaha's website for such a beast? I know I've seen it for sale somewhere, at a fraction of the cost of full forward control kits.

Welcome to motorcycling! But hey, the bike was free so spring for the controls! I have $800.00 invested in my seat but it was worth every penny thanks to the increase in comfort.
