Older bikes

#1 Unread post by kerryb »

Looking to buy a used bike, and wondered if its a good idea to buy an older model, ie mid 90's. Generally do they need alot more maintenance, are there certain makes that last better, like subaru cars? Really what I want to know is, would it be a mistake to buy an older bike if I'm not mechanically minded?

Mmm...no not really. An older bike can hold up just as well as a new one.

Especially if it's an old Honda. Those things are die-hards.

I know, I was surprised too.

I got my first bike last year, a 1986 Honda Rebel. Then got my second bike last month, 1995 Honda Nighthawk. Love them both.

Haven't had any problems, and I didn't spend very much money. I figure a used bike is the perfect ride for learning. And I expect to get ALL my money back when it's time to sell.
