Anywhere online to purchase thicker helmet padding for Arai helmets?
Or anywhere in houston that may have some in stock?
I tried the cycle gears but they are fresh out and if i have to order i'd rather just have it shipped directly to me.

If anyone cares, I called the cyclegear.com 1800# and ordered that way. It's taking forever to ship (probably had to get them from the manufacturer) but i don't have to drag my butt to the store once to order and then another time to pick them up. I wish Arai made their accessories more accessible to the consumer.

So, did you get a helmet thats too big?

well, not exactly.
I apparantly have an odd shaped head. My head is kind of long from front to back and top to bottom but skinny from ear to ear. So i need a helmet (like arai astral-x or corsair) that is meant for long heads. But still, in order to fit in it comfortably i needed a large. I had a medium last time but always felt like i couldn't quite pull it down far enough but it fit nice and tight. On the verge of too tight. With the large it goes on much easier and it fits ok from front to back (i can still kiss the chin guard if i pucker up) and i get an impression in my forehead from the top padding but the side to side is a little loose. If i push on one side, i can just about make some space between the pad and my cheek on the other side. So i think the thicker cheekpads will do it. I hope.

No, it depends on the model. Half their line seems to be for round (can't even get those on) and some like the Astral-X are for long. I've tried HJC, Shoei, KBC(sp?), Arai, AGV, Nolan and one or two others. Arai fits the best. Shark i have not tried yet.

I think Arais have three different shapes available. I read that in some motorcycle magazine... but forgot where.

Arai now has three different head profiles (I'm not even gonna try to remember which models fit which head shape).

If you bought your helmet brand new at a dealer... and Arai will not allow anyone that is not "trained" to fit their helmets correctly to sell them. Then take the helmet back where you bought it and tell them your problem. The dealer is supposed to make sure that the helmet fits RIGHT before lettiing you out the door. (The dealer is supposed to sign and send in your warranty card for you, as well.)

If they can't/won't help you, then go to Arai directly and give them the story.

I used to work for a dealership that sells Arai helmets and we were all trained in the 'proper' method of fitting.

I a that why you have that post about how to make 100% sure your helmet fits? I think that was a great post to have around.

Yup, got it at cycle gear. It fits the best. seriously. I've been through a few helmets and had them for weeks and went back to exchange for different ones and different sizes. The thicker cheek pads are to tweak the fit. Isn't that why they make them? The other thing is i have no hair so there is nothing to help conform or to fill up space. It's like trying to find a helmet to fit a rock.
