Two days ago I read about this 29 year old kid who died doing 120 mph on a residential street which was mostly likely a 45 mph speed zone. I ride it all the time and it has lights every few miles for crying out loud.

Yesterday the local newpsaper covered his funeral and what irked me was this little tidbit;

Fatal motorcycle crashes are all too common in South Florida, and too many riders wrongly think helmets and other gear may prevent death, officials say.

Well if someone isn't going 120 mph maybe the stuff might help a little better!

Here's the article. When I first read this I think back to all the 'discussions' we've had in these forums about speeding....

that's just stupid for him to do.

but still sad that hormones and adrenaline cost him his life.

he was 29 and had 11 traffic violations including racing... he shouldn't have still had a license.

Not to mention, he had a "2006 Yamaha". I'm guessing he just moved up, and thought he could handle the bigger bike... guess not! Plus, police clocked him at 120? So he was running from police? He definitely shouldn't have been on a bike to start with... why don't we have an 11 strikes you're out rule or something.

I totally missed the tickets and violations...wow...

It all comes back to the same thing said in these forums whenever the subject comes up...at least he didn't take anyone with him....

I forget what it is exactly but NJ I think after 10-14 (just an estimate I forgot the actual number) points you lose your license for a week, then get a probation type status. Then if you get any more points you lose it for a year or some such, and it increases from there...i think NY has similiar program.

That kid definately should not have been on the road. But here in the US an illegal alien who drives backwards on the freeway into a bus stop can still get his license renewed.

I kinda cringed at the first part of the article.

They love the thrill and throttle, and many bikers have a penchant for darting in and out of traffic. But they are not always easy to spot, or quick enough to stop at crucial curves.

It assumes that bikers are dangerous, that we put ourselves in danger, and that its OUR fault that drivers dont see us, and that most accidents are the biker's fault (lacking those critical skills to stop at crucial curves!).

it's people like this that gives us, people that ride SBKs, a bad name on the streets.

i didn't know speeding down residential streets was considered a sport. is plundering a sport too?

I can't wait till they make Plundering an olympic sport.

in ventura over the weekend an ezno was crashed. Was doing 140 plus and caught air. Hit a telephone tole and the car, as it was designed to do, fell apart. Intresting note though, the car went through the poll. the height at which it struck the poll, 6 feet, holy crap.
so ya, speeding is bad
