Dragging rear brake

I have a few friends who say they drag the rear brake in slow speed turns.

Doesn't this take away some traction ? Is it helpful ?

If you do the manouvre correctly then it works perfectly, what they did not tell you is that you need to have your engine running at high revs. I have been taught on a few courses to maintain steady revs and use the rear brake to slow you down. the centrifugal force of the engine helps to maintain balance.

I drag the rear brake in slow speed turns, moderate speed turns, and high speed turns. Rear braking in turns tends to settle the bike much the same as acceleration in turns does. It can be quite helpful if you need to slow a bit if you don't lock the rear brake doing it.

I too trail brake. Though I'm usually on dirt or mud where traction is wicked easy to break. Differant ride though.
