hey everybody... i'm in the process of looking for a bike.. .i've registered for the MSC and i've got lots of time to look for one.. money isnt' a huge issue, looking to spend up to 4000$ maybe more, depends on what i find... i have decided that i will not buy a 600 sport bike to start with... i'm not really sure what i want, cruiser or sport.. most of my riding will be shorter trips, joyriding but there will ne the occasional 4-5 hour run.... that said going to look into a few bikes in the local buy/sell... looking for opinions on price cause i really don't have much of a clue....

2001 EX500R Kawasaki Ninja 7700kms for 4900$
2000 shadow 750 5500$ 19000k
87 ninja 500 for 2400$
93 suk vx800 2500$ 76000km
couple others that would be decent but a lil older than i want to go, the 87 is pushin it...

anyone think that a 750 cruiser would be too much for a noob?

I suggest looking at standard if you don't know what you want. :)

Lots to choose from and it allows you to ride chill or more racey in position.
It's the way to go.

oh, and the 750 cruiser will be fine power-wise. The only thing you have to worry about is weight/size of the bike. My T-100 is 865cc and the power handling is awesome, never have to worry about it. But at 451lbs dry, I have to be a little careful and practice my parking lot manuevers and emergency stops. And that's light for its class.

I just bought an Alphasport GV250 Classic (cruiser) for 3k out the door (on a new 04 leftover), and I think it is an excellent beginner bike. It weighs in at ~350 lbs, has decent midrange power, and it is very easy to handle.

I chose this over a rebel or virago because it is laid out a little better for taller people. I am 6'0 about 225. A lot of people are hesitant about 250's, but I think it has plenty of power around town. I haven't gotten on the highway since I am still learning, but I have heard that it does just fine up to 85mph.

They also have a "standard" version of this bike, the GV250 Sport, and a sport bike, the Comet 250.

they dont have a very good website, but you can at least see the bikes and find a dealer near you.

They all retail for about $3700 new for the 05 models.
