Can i use car engine oil to lubricate a chain on my GSX-R 600 because it is imposibile to find proper chain lubricant in my town.

Any motorcycle store should sell at least one brand. Otherwise you can order it online from almost any bike site.

You could probably use engine oil but be aware it is not going to help much. You and the bike are going to be wearing most of it.

Where do you live? Hell, I can find chainlube at the autoparts stores here. And the hardware store, now that I think about it...

If you can't find anything in town, use chainsaw oil, sometimes called 'bar oil'.... it will fling less than motor oil..... still gonna be messy as hell though. And I would only use that until the PJ-1 Chainwax I ordered online got there....

Car oil can be used in auto-oiling systems such as Scottoiler. As for manual application, it'd probably be best to use specifically designed chain lube, which I find hard to believe you can't find. Any motorcycle dealer, or motorcycle parts store, should be able to get you soem. Failing that, you can always find some online.

I live in Serbia and we are very much undeveloped as far as motorcycles are consired. It is very hard to find motorbike equipment here and i cannot buy anything online because credit cards are not accepted from Serbia. I can only try to find a good substitute for equipment i need, and improvise.
Ok, So i can use motor oil but it will probably quickly fly off the chain. It's not so bad.

Ah, gotcha. If there are hardware stores over there similar to Lowe's or Home Depot, DuPont makes a Teflon-based dry lube that I hear works as a decent substitute for chain lube. Might want to keep your eyes open for that.

If all else fails, WD-40. Just remember to apply it frequently, it doesn't stick as well as chain lube and doesn't have other properties of chain lube, but it'll work in a pinch.

hey we need to take a collection up and ship a couple of cans of chain lube to our frozen friend in Russia.

That sucks, i guess I should stop complaining about the 75KM ride to the nearest dealer.

I found some chain oil in a local BICYCLE shop. It says i can use the stuff on the motorcycle so i will get that and see how it goes. Very cheap stuff too, only 8$ ...

Any auto parts store will have the proper product, which is 90weight Gear Oil (at least for my Hondas). Don't use WD40, it's a solvent not a lubricant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
