OK, so i'm looking at buying a 99 Yamaha YZF-R1, it is equiped with

Full Yosh Rs-3 exhaust
chrome frame
custom paint
clear title
adjustable arm
18,000 miles

the guy wants 5000 for the bike with a pretty much new matching Shoei Helmet

What i'm asking is should I buy? Should I pass? or should i try and talk him down.....if so how much should i offer with out insulting him.

Thanks for the help,
T.J. aka noob

chrome frame + custom paint = crash repair*

*(99% of the time - some guys just like bling)

I would pass--either a crash repair as Zoo says or had the pizz run out of it by a squid, or both.

so if it's a crash repair that's been fixed up nicely, wouldn't it still run as good as new?

Would you like to ride it for $5000? I wouldn't. $5000 is a nice down payment on a nice new safe bike.

Agreed, 5 grand is a good down payment on something new. You will not have to wonder if it had the snot beat out of it that way... and what was not fixed in the engine you can not see.

A dealership near me was selling a brand new (leftover) Bandit 1200 for $5995.00 when I bought my bike. Take your $5k and shop around.

...and you can find just about any used bike, in great condition, for that same $5000 (or even much less unless you're set on the R1).

Check cycletrader.com it has a great search feature by price, type, location, etc.
