Um...negatory on that GSXR600. There's a whole host of information on this site concerning good first bikes. Make yourself at home, stay awhile and look around

bad first bike choice, I would look for a EX500 etc, as a learner bike, I just got out of my learner bike, and am so glad I listened to the fols who talked me out of the 600cc bike I was looking at.
Rode it for 3 years and now am ready for a bigger bike.

You need to make a sticky that simply says:
"DO NOT BUY GSX-R's, YZF's, CBR's, OR ZX-R's as a starter bike"
Maybe ppl will stop asking this age old question...

You should restate your question to this:
"Is a kick to the groin or a knife to the thigh a better way to wake up in the morning?"
Try some other options that aren't incredibly expensive, difficult to control and dangerous.

I for one choose the third option. Hot coffee, bacon, toast, hashbrowns and fried eggs delivered by a hot naked lady.
Otherwise known as the EX500...

Or GS500, or EX250, or Blast 500...
Pick one of the above, rinse, reuse.

Go to the rides and stories section of the site, read "Crashing at Pine Mountain" - the kid that crashed, one of the soldiers I deployed to Iraq with - definitely a beginner. Bike of choice? '06 CBR600RR. Plastic all needs to be replaced. Did the power or speed bite him in the backside? No, it sure didn't - but dropping a brand spanking new sport bike is EXPENSIVE. The rear fairing pieces - $400. He ripped his off in the crash. You don't have to get bit by the power and speed - people crash slowing down and turning too.

its been said already but none of the GSXRs are recomended starter bikes. If your careful and a little lucky you can learn on it and be ok, but its still not advised.
