Hola all my good ole' mates out in ethernet land!

Please forgive me if someone may have posted something along the lines of my question but I just thought i'd shoot it out there. Ok, I have a Triumph T-bird *sport* and i'm still a rather novice chap when it comes to bike maintenance. So, can someone give me some good info. about when I may need to tighten my chain? After a certain # of miles? I can't really eye-ball it because I don't know how loose is too loose! Perhaps there is a technique all you savvy cats use :p I posted a similar topic about "how do you tighten your chain?", however I have still not really gone forth because I don't even know if I should just yet

While I am at it, can someone tell me when I should change my oil on my bike?

Get a manual for your particular bike that way you have all the pertinent info.
When bike on center stand I check the slack of the chain on the bottom side mines approximate 1" (all bikes are slightly different hence the need for a manual). Don’t forget to keep well lubed.

What shotgun said: the spec's in the manual. That said, it's better to err (slightly) on the side of too loose than too tight.
