So guys and gals...here's an IM conversation i had with my friend (I deleted his responses) of what happened to me when I TRIED to go buy my EX250R today...::sigh::...

"12:05 PM
ALRIGHT
SO
i call my salesman, scott, and i'm like "dude you gonna be there? i'm on my way" and hes like "a friend of mine got arrested in mexico, i cant be there, but talk to this guy cole, he knows the whole deal..." and i'ml ike "alright cool"

so i go, talk to cole, everything is good....black ninja 250 3400....he tries to bump me to 3500...not a big deal, thats his job, stick to my guns, 3400....alright, we've got a deal...awesome...
so, cole comes back after filling out some paperwork...'bad news man...the black one was sold...but we have blue, yellow and red..." and i'm like "What? scott and you just said it was here..."..."yeah, inventory problems, i'm really sorry" ok......i was thinking about a red one to begin with so after like 10 mins i'm like "alright, i'll go with the red...".....

i'm like "alright, no black, no big deal....3400 good price still.....wait...why does this red one have 145 miles on it?"..."it was a dealertrade....." ::pause:: "they drive them over here? why dont' they put them on a truck? they're motorcycles..." "i dunno man...."......

alright, red one, 145 miles, dealertrade, still brand new....i can deal with this...then he comes back...."oh, so i guess what happened was a guy had it for a day, the financing didn't go through and he brought it back"...."alright, COLE, so if he had it for A DAY and he brought it ‘right back’, how does it have 145 miles on it? and is it considered used now?" " no man, still brand new, never titlted...."....::sigh::.....hmm, i dunno about this

so i bail, i'm like, i don't think so man....his manager comes over and is like "the reason its used is because..." and i'm like "woah! it IS used now?" "yeah....." and i'm like "wait wait wait, there has been WAY more backpeddling than forward progress here...." and then the manager offers me it for 3300 and i'm like "its not about 100 bucks at this point, its about the shady s*** going on...." and i left

and when i ordered my helmet it was supposed to take a week and i called in a week and it hadn't even BEEN ORDERED it took another week to get it....that place sucks and i'll never go back"

This was at HAMM motorsports in Anaheim if any of you are in this area...DO NOT recommend them...I'll keep you guys updated on the bike hunt...since its still in progress....

Finding a good dealership can sometimes be an extremely frustrating experience. It seems in this case there was an over all principal at stake, and I think you did the right thing. They should at least know what is going on with their bikes and be able to honestly relay that information to you.

We had a terrible situation when first shopping for our car (a Subaru WRX). I wanted it in blue, which was hard to come by at the time - we went around and around with the dealership. Salesman finally said he would do a dealer trade for us (this after recommending that I, as a woman, should reconsider wanting a manual transmission and just go with an automatic - ARHG!!!!!!!). We had to keep calling and calling because the car was several days overdue on its arrival. Finally they came clean and let us know that they had to finish up some work on it, as they had somehow managed to let fall off of the flat-bed delivery truck. I went the next day and insisted on my deposit back. It was so aggravating.

Keep looking - it'll work out soon. Good luck.

Cheers,
Loonette

3400 for a ninja 250R is a rip-off

the bikes MSRP is 2999.

I bought my bike from Hahm in Anaheim and had no problem what so ever. I actually negotiated for two hours and actually left before getting the deal I wanted. Glad you walked away though. You posess the ultimate power. the power to say NO!

A lot of dealers will try to rip-off newbies, and either sell them a starter bike for too much or immediately try to upsell them to something too big

yeah dealers suck. I learned along time ago to be prepared to walk away. Then i do my business and get the hell away from them.

so a good rule of thumb is msrp+tax for the bike? on a small bike like a 250r can i tell them to get bent if they try to add on for freight, dealer setup and other shenanigans or is that considered standard to add on above msrp?

i got my bike w/o the freight and handling fee and $400 lower than MSRP. :D

but i did end up paying for extended warranty and GAP insurance but those are important to me.

like you, i was ready to walk away... but then they called me back in the last minute and gave me a deal w/o all the BS.

Good move walking out. When the story keeps changing, it usually means someone is trying to pull a fast one.
