interesting info regarding synthetic oil and new engines...

so i went to a bike shop last wednesday...

i was looking to try on some 1pc suits but they were out of stock for size 38s and size 40s.

anyway, i looked around a little more and saw some motor oils. talked to a guy at the shop and asked about synthetic oil running on new engines.

he said he was just in a meeting w/ castrol president or whatever high ranking dood and the topic was brought up during the meeting.

the castrol guy said that on new engines around this past couple of years, specifically on honda and suzuki, it's ok to run full synthetic since the engines are run hard and broken in even before they put frames on it.

so he said i should get the castrol R4 (IIRC) since he said it's the only oil that he felt a real diff regarding performance on his bikes.

he also said that motul and other companies don't make oil, they just package it. castrol actually makes their oil.

i take what this guy said w/ a grain of salt but i was wondering what you guys think about this.

that's interesting. i would be skeptical of that as well.

if the engines were truly broken in before being mounted then riders of hondas and suzukis would not have to break in their new bikes would they? but for some reason the manual tells us to do this, and most everyone does take certain steps to break in their ride, whether they follow the manual's advice on rpm's or not...

this smells like a conspiracy!

oil is oil for the most part.

the only advantage to synthetic is better resistance to high temps and takes longer to break down.
