Why does my bike's gas mileage stink so far?

I have put about 200 miles on my new Buell XB12S so far (still breaking-in). Every independent review I read about this bike (about 10 different ones) say it should get about 40-43 mpg; so far after 2 fuel-ups I am only getting about 28-30mpg. I called the dealer where I bought the bike and he basically said if it's not leaking gas onto the ground nothing is wrong and that it could be because I am still breaking in the bike.

Other than riding the bike real hard, or a bad O2 censor can anyone think what could cause a motorcycle to get bad gas mileage? The bike is fuel injected and the check engine light is not on... meaning that when I turn the bike on there are not errors in the diagnostics...

Thank you!

Once broken in, it should go up. Other than that, I duno what could be wrong on a brand new bike. FYI a bad O2 sensor wouldn't necesarrily trip the CEL.

When I was breaking in my first bike, it got about 10mpg under what it was after break-in, if that helps.
