Ok, so I've been reading lots lately on how to avoid the points that come along with tickets. Now mind you I'm not crazy - I'm not on the pavement doing 150mph and getting caught..
I just have the worlds worst luck and get caught going 15-20mph over the limit far too often. So now I have points on my PA license. I thought at first that out of state licenses didn't transfer points, so I figured I'd just tone it down in state and when ever I wanted to open it up a little I'd head down to deleware (less then an hour from here). But apparently points transfer from other states like crazy (for anyone else curious in researching this check out this article: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=585528).
So I guess my question is this - what do you do to avoid getting points on your license? Do fight every ticket? How does that work out for you (usually)? Any advice would be great. I have a court date in a few days that will determine my fate (I am fighting my first ticket to prevent going over 5 points on my license). Thx in advance.

Not get pulled over. Simple as that. And the one ticket i got was a freebie in MA but it hit me when i moved to maine. And the other time the cop let me off do to her friend walking across the road to keep talking to her. Yeah... That was a good one.

If you speed and get caught, pay your fine and take your points. I speed a little most of the time, and I know I risk getting tickets and paying fines. There is risk associated with breaking the law.

So I guess my question is this - what do you do to avoid getting points on your license?

Well you can STOP SPEEDING! LOL seriously you run around at 15-20 mph over the speed limit, what are you complaining about? Breaking traffic laws amounts to a risk vs benefit balance. You speed because you 'feel good', you risk paying for it in fines and insurance hikes and possibly losing your license. You run stop lights because you're late or for the thrill, you risk tickets or being smeared.

I dont think you'll find anyone who has sympathy for you...you know the rules, you decide to break them (quite heavily in fact...sheesh you're doing 80 on a freeway?), you get caught - you pay the consequences.

What is with people these days? Not directed at you, but it seems like no one ever thinks they are responsible for their choices anymore.

I was thinking when I read this - sometimes I slow down to 80.

Seriously though, I do about 10 over most of the time. If the other drivers on the freeway are doing a higher average speed, I will usually find a "rabbit" to follow. That means follow the fastest car but stay about 1/2 mile behind him and watch for brake lights. Best radar detector I ever used.

I try my best to go the speed limit as much as possible. Considering we have traffic congestion quite often here, there's really no need for me to speed.

I always see people going really fast on the freeway...unless they get off at an offramp somewhere ahead of me, I always catch up to them eventually. In-city traffic is the best...I love watching people swerve and gas it like crazy, dodging in and out of traffic, speeding, and 10 miles down the road I'm right there next to them at the stoplight.

Usually they're fuming. I think people just need to relax and not worry about going so fast...they'll enjoy the ride more.

Don't get me wrong, I do ride (& drive) carefully and follow the speed limits for 30's and 40's.... but motorways (freeways) are fair game

I see it is not easy to do the right thing on the freeway. Especially the way others drive so fast and look at you like your crazy because you're actually driving the correct speed. But if they yank license you will have big regrets and wish you would have done things differently. Good luck with your court day.

Be a grownup and face the consequences of your actions. I knew people in Chicago who regularly parked illegally for their convenience, but they budgeted money each month to pay their parking fines. If you're willing to speed, then just deal with it.
