Pennsylvania rt. 6

#1 Unread post by Bubba »

A buddy and myself are going to take a ride on rt 6 in Pennsylvania. (east to west) Suppose to be one of the best biking roads in the US.
Anyone out there ever take this ride, what's there to see and how did you like the ride?

Never ridden it, but driven parts in a car. I've got cousins in Potter county. One of the most obvious attractions is the gorge of Pine Creek, the so-called Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, just west of Wellsboro. The road in that area is nice, lots of sweepers.

The wife and I want to ride the whole length Poconos to Alleghenys this summer, if vacation (and pet sitting) can be worked out.

Never driven it on a bike but, you'll definitely see some pretty country. A lot of small towns and little distractions. In Bradford PA, you can visit the Zippo Lighter Museum. The Bradford/Emporium area also has a lot of mountainous terrain. Warren PA has oil refineries and the Kinzua Dam area.... Not sure what else. I live near Corry PA. Route 6 is only a few miles from my house. The furthest East I've been on it is the Bradford area. Might actually be Smethport.... not sure. Smethport used to have the world's largest Christmas Store but, I believe it closed last year.

Have fun!

I see your from Lumberton. I'm from Mt.Laurel and my buds from Winnona. Were goin to run the river up, if plans don't change, and then head across. When we get back I'll post the trip and hopfully some pictures and let you know how it went.
