Honda Holds Ceremony to Commemorate 10th Anniversary of Motorcycle Production Plant in Peru

Ceremony for the 10th anniversary of production at HSP

IQUITOS, Peru, December 7, 2017 – Honda Selva Del Peru S.A.(HSP), a Honda motorcycle production subsidiary in Peru, held a ceremony on December 6, 2017 (local time) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the company’s production in Peru. The ceremony was attended by Governor of Loreto region Fernando Melendez and the Japanese Ambassador to Peru Tastuya Kabutan. Attendees from Honda included Takahiro Hachigo, President and Representative Director, Issao Mizoguchi, Chief Officer for Regional Operations (South America) and Noriaki Abe, Chief Officer of Motorcycle Operations.

In 2007, HSP began production with approximately 40 associates in Iquitos City located in the Selva area (the area of the Amazon rainforest) of Peru. HSP has been expanding its production along with the popularization of mobility products in Peru and cumulative motorcycle production in the last 10 years exceeds 300,000 units.

Based on its longstanding commitment to “build products close to the customer,” Honda began motorcycle production in Peru in 1975 in Trujillo in northern Peru. In anticipation of increasing demand for motorcycles in Peru, Honda established HSP, a new production operation, in Iquitos in 2006.

In addition to motorcycles, Honda has been producing the MOTOKAR, a 3-wheel motorcycle, in Peru. While focusing on local needs in Peru, Honda developed MOTOKAR with a goal to make people’s lives more enjoyable. Since the start of production in 1980, MOTOKAR has been undergoing continuous improvements to further enhance product quality and user-friendliness for customers in the Selva area. Today, MOTOKAR is playing an important role as an essential means of mobility in people’s everyday lives in this area. Moreover, by producing various component parts of MOTOKAR at the HSP plant, Honda has been able to accommodate local demand in a timely manner, create jobs in the area and conduct business rooted in the Selva area.
