MotoCrash

#1 Unread post by Dirtytoes »

i was just thinking of ways to learn how to do wheelies today......i know the "how-to" but since it'd be my first time i though alotta things could go wrong.....so i did a little googling on wheelies and found some crazy videos & pics......made me think of waiting another year or so before trying to do wheelies.....and i know that i'm not the only beginner who wishes he could pull off really cool stunts on my bike.......anyways, here they are:

this one isn't caused by any type of stunt by it still looks really bad:

Wheelies are utterly pointless. Even if you do them right and manage not to crash it is still causing damage to your bike.
I leave them to other people and laugh at the videos of when they crash.

Wheelies - Why Beginners Shouldn't Do Them

#3 Unread post by m4lu6 »

I was at the dealership yesterday to buy some more goodies for my bike, and I got to talking with my sales rep about the 2006 R6Ss (again). He took me down to the shop, and showed me what happens when a n00b (squid) attempted a wheelie on a new bike.

It was terrible.

An anonymous 20-year old male had purchased this beautiful R6S just 1 week prior. It was his first bike, and he apparently had not taken the MSF course.

He tried to impress his buddies by doing a wheelie, just 3 days after he'd bought the bike.

New Rider: 0, Torque & Gravity: 1

The bike was totally trashed. Fairings, gone. Instrument cluster, demolished. Footpegs, trashed. There wasn't a square inch of the bike, it seemed, that hadn't taken a beating from the resulting wipeout. It broke my heart to see what an idiotic kid had done to this piece of art.

To spend the better part of $10k on a bike, and then through one's arrogance, turn it into a glorified paperweight, is a testament to the stupidity of man ( or, in this case, Cephalopods http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid

1st off, i just got insurance last night, and my crazy donkey only got liability cause i didn't think i'd drop it.

liability(w/ anti-insured motorist) =d $600
full coeverage =d $2200

...cheapest i found, checked eith like 50 companies.

this morning i went and i bought a pair of boots (pretty heavy)....i think that's what caused the drop.

i was only downhill, not too fast but i was still in 3rd gear w/ my ex500. i got to the bottom of the hill, came to a stop sign, there was a lot of small puddles....i noticed i was going too fast, so i pushed a little harder on the front brakes.....and outta nowhere i somehow the bike fell over and pushed me to the side and then forward like 7 feet in front of it.....luckily i had my gear on, so i was sliding on my hands...i got a couple of holes through my gloves. .......my guess it the back wheel locked...am i right? and i think it was because of the frikkin heavy "O Ring" boots that were on em. (i ofcourse didn't realizie it at the time)......

i'm still trying to figure out what the hell happened......any ideas?

i don't know the right 'terms' but i'll try my best......the sidelights fell off(yellow blinkers), the left frame(the one where it says "ninja" & "500R" on it).....the muffler got scrached up and a lot of other small scratches everywhere.

took it to a kawasaki dealer.

he asked me how long the bike was on the ground for and i said 5-10 seconds....(i picked it up as soon as i could)....he turned it on and said it sounds like there is something like with i dont remember (something that makes sparks) thoughi rode it around for awhile and it was fine.

he said that he fixed but that one had the whole left side messed up....he said it cost $3,700 !!!!! i bought my bike for $4,000.

so ya any advice on what might have happened & what i should do would be appreciated
This was just the other day.

Forget about wheelies.

Forget about the damage to your bike. The cost of that is nothing compared to your medical bills. Remember also that if you are doing a wheelie on a roadway, it's illegal. Most insurances won't cover damages or injuries when you're performing an illegal act.

Ambulance costs alone will run upwards of $2,000(usd). That's if all they do is put you in spinal immobilization (backboard, cervical collar, etc). If you have fractures that the EMT's or Paramedics see, add the cost of splints. If you need invasive care like an IV, double the cost. Now you're looking at upwards of $4000. You haven't reached the ER yet!

Now in the ER, you're looking at the doctor's time (Usually around $100 to $200 / hr), cost of being seen in that hospital, X-rays, Lab work, antibiotics, wound care things like bandaging, ointments etc.

Uh Oh, they found a broken bone. Now you have to pay for a bone specialist and casting if not surgery.....

Uh Oh, that road rash is a bit deep. You need a skin graft. More bandaging, surgeries, doctor bills, follow-up visits....

*whew* You're out of the hospital, you're on your way to recovering, I want to go out for the night.... *argh!* My bike!!! It's going to cost me how much to get it out of the shop????

theres this, playing devils advacate here, some of these sports bike, power to weight ratio makes it easy to get the front end in the air even unintentionly, so being able to handle a wheelie, maybe you can avoid a accident, though if you cant afford to lose your bike, maybe you shouldnt attempt it, a dealer friend of mine says nearly fifty percent of the new sports machines he sells come back with damage within a month. unberleivable huh.

A few months ago, as I was heading in to work on the graveyard shift for about three nights in a row, I got passed by three numbskulls on sportsbikes, who thought it was "cool" to pull wheelies on I-95 at 70 MPH or so. At night mind you. You have no idea how impressed I was.
