2 cycle performance and tuning

I just picked up an old 2 cycle (because it was free :p) and I'm curious about some of the fundamental differences between 2 cycle and 4 cycle and tuning there of.

This is a 1960 125cc 1cylinder and while I figured being lighter and older it might be copareable to a newer 200 or 250cc 4 cycle the ...

I see this question asked a lot on other forums too, I think that Kawi must be falsely posting 70MPG, I haven't even seen people get that even at 55MPH.

Idle is a good idea but that probably only affected you by 5MPG because of your city driving, at speed it should be less of an issue.

I would say ...

I would think it would certainly NOT be street legal, but it should be perfectly legal as a bicycle.

That is, do not try to add lights and tag it, but continue to bicycle in the bicycle lanes except now you can boost up hills when you're tired :-).

I'm not even sure that's legal exactly but I have ...

Wow that bike's awesome, I like the looks better then the 250 Ninja. Nice price.

Anyway main things to check if it's been sitting a while and does not have a current or active inspection (so you're going to need to get it inspected so you'll want it to pass). First thing I look at is tires, tread ...

Tomorrow evening is coming (tonight) and I see no responses, so I'll take a stab at it.

I didn't see you mention when it was last inspected or if the bike has a current/valid inspection. As long as it does, I'd go for it.

Fork seals are a pain, I'm not sure how much they cost at a shop but I'd ...

Any idea what years they were produced, looks like '64-'72 but I can't be sure, any idea how to tell what year mine is?

Also according to this site: http://www.3cyl.com/~mraxl/gt/specs/yamspecs.htm They were electric start but I ...

Hrrm, why'd my picture disappear.

Anyway, that's an amazingly quick response for such an obscure question. I think you're right that looks EXACTLY like my bike, right down to the steel/chrome tank with no words just the Yamaha symbol in front of the rubber knee pad. I couldn't find any bike on ...

help identifying an old (60s?) yamaha

I just acquired what I think is an awesome bike. It seems quite rare to me as I've never seen many like it and reading about 60s yamahas it's pretty amazing stuff, with things like Autolube why'd they have to force so hard for 4 cycle... oh well.

Anyway pictures speak louder than words:
