that bike should get over 70mpg.

ignition problems can mimic carb problems.

check the plugs, timing (if adjustable) spark and do a compression test then post the results.

don't be lazy. remove the carb float bowl which can sometimes be done without taking off the carb. remove the floats / needle and seat and clean the needle/seat well. i used to polish mine with silver polish but you probably won't have to be that thorough. also make sure that your floats aren't ...

this is something very simple. did you say that you checked the fuel filter in the tank? when you open the petcock with an open fuel line, does the gas come draining out in a good steady stream? did you check the idle ports on your carb? did you remove them and clean all the small passages ...

yeah, i considered repainting it and putting new decals on it but if i were buying this bike, i'd want to see the original paint so i know it hasn't been bondoed up. there is one exactly like it on ebay that's now over $1,200. when it sells it will give me a very good idea of what this bike is worth ...

an artist i know in dallAss just gave it to me. it was sitting for a long time and "running poorly" before that. i figured out the wiring now all the lights work. the only thing left to do is fine tune it. it will tach up to about 7K rpm then start cutting out. the bike has very good compression ...
