Most cruisers have little ground clearance. Some seem to drag hard parts when they cross a shadow. Its characteristic of most cruisers.

There is one 'fix' that frequently helps. When cornering hard allow you body to follw the lean as normal. However, try to keep your head and eyes level. This is ...

lemme guess.... You took the MSF course at Adirondack Community College???

The delay in getting the actual waiver is a bummer. It is supposed to be temporary.

Motorcycle Assoc of NY state used to 'administer' the program. Waiver would be mailed "withing 8 weeks". Usually took three, but that is ...

Its a bit late but here's my contribution;

Do NOT, repeat NOT, inflate tires to the pressures listed on the tires! This is wholly and completely incorrect! (it is a VERY common myth or mistake).

The tire pressure printed on the sidewalls of the tire is a MAXIMUM "Do not ever exceed" pressure ...

In short the answer is mesh...

Yes, leather is nice. it offers excellent protection. However, it is never inexpensive, and it is rarely 'cool'. You can find cheap leather, but cheap leather is typically thin, poorly designed, shoddily assembled and does NOT offer all the protection benefits that we ...

Chaps are an improvement over no leg protection at all (and just pants pretty much is no protection). However, they do leave your rear end exposed, and your butt can be one of those body parts prone to road rash. Full coverage riding pants are better choices. It's your bottom......

In my ...

Bikeornot 59:

There are two considerations: Bike size/usefulness and your capabilities as a rider.

You mentioned taking lessons. You may well find that your ideas about a suitable bike before the course and your ideas about suitable bikes after the course are two different things..... I see this ...

I'll add my two cents........

1) Take the MSf course. Just do it. Your confidence level should be several orders higher after the course, and bikes that feel 'scary' now will feel somewhat better then. You may find you like certain bikes you would not have considered previousy.

2) If you ar lucky ...

The little Ninja is a nice bike. That isn't a whole lotta miles for a 13 year old bike, but it IS 13 years. The tires definitely must go. Please remember, the contact patch between tire and street is VERY small on a motorcycle, and you only have two of them. Your life rides on those tires. Make sure ...

I would most definitely take the Vstar.

Assume noth bikes are brand new, at exactly the same cost. The Vstar wins. It has a larger aftermarket, with more parts and accessories available. It is a somwhat larger, smoother handling bike. It has 5 speeds. The Shadow VLX has a damned four speed gear box ...

When driving a car you are usually physically 'fixed' in one position. Turning your head does not typically cause much, if any, change in body alignment. In addition, the turning radius of a car is measured in YARDS. A U-turn on a residential street is an impossibility. We have to do three point ...
