Yeah that did it. It was the clutch switch just under the clutch, unplugged and just hanging there. Feel like an a$$ because it's right in front of my face. At the same time though, if you don't know what you're looking for it could be completely missed (or so I tell myself). As for the smoke, I ...

Was the bike sitting out in cold weather ?

The bike is currently sitting outside, under covered parking, with a cover on it. The weather has been humid, stormy, and between 65 to 75 degress (F) for the last week (about ten degrees cooler at night). I've had the bike a couple of days stored in ...

I See Smoke

-Not sure if this should be posted under Trouble Shooting-

Well, I finally got my bike a 2006 Yamaha V-Star 650 (pics to come). I was out tonight riding it for the first time and noticed a little bit of white smoke. I caught first glimpse of the smoke/exhaust (not sure if it's smoke or exhaust) in ...

Okay, from what I'm getting from some people it would seem the 1100 V-Star wouldn't be a bad fit (if I could afford it). Being a newbie is this wise? The horsepower differnece is 53 vs 42 when compared the 650 V-Star. The bigger difference is in torque, the 1100 reaches max at 2500 RPMs while the ...

The only shortcoming I found with my 650 is this: On very long, long, long steep uphill climbs on the highway it lacks unless you can get a run at it before you get to the hill. Although it did manage to maintain the speed limit going up a particular hill, once I caught up to a slower moving car ...

Close to Buying-Got Tips?

Okay, I finish the MSF, got my license, and I'm now down to getting a bike. My style preference is a cruiser and I'm leaning towards the 2006 V-Star 650 Custom. I've looked at most other brands and models but as a beginner this one sticks out...it just feels right. I've read info and some postings ...

Okay...now I'm ready!

Finally!!! On April 15th I will be taking an MSF course and hopefully by the end of the month I'll have my FIRST BIKE!!! I signed up in this forum almost a year ago. Since then all I've been able to do is drool in envy. I gathered myself as best as I could over the last year reading all kinds of ...

Re: You should be fine

I got a brother and a couple of friends that keep their bikes outside year round under a cover. As long as you get a good cover that breathes rust won't be an issue. Also check out the cycleshell and bikebarn. There expensive but it beats paying for self storage every month.

I've just checked out ...

Thanks for the advice. I've looked at online prices for public storage in my area and they range from $35-$45/month. Now I hope there are units available. I've found ways to offset this cost...so much for cable  . But I figure, hey, if I really want to do it...I better do it right. Especially ...
