If not the fuse, check the ignition switch. I had the same problem with a 1980 yamaha maxim and it turned out to be in ingition switch (key switch). You should get at least the tail light when turning the switch to on but not started or running.

Pilot Air Jets and Main Air Jets

I am looking for somebody that sells Pilot Air Jets and Main Air jets for a 1980 Yamaha 650 Maxim I have torn apart the carbs completey (see idles rough post). Only Idles on full choke

I am working on this old 1980 yamaha maxim 650 that has not been ran in 6 years. I pulled the carb bank out and cleaned them up (I think) and put back together. I did notice the carb holders are cracked and I will order new ones. In the mean time, bike will start right up and idle with full choke ...

I have a good connection between the hot wire (red) and the blue wire (tailight) when the switch in in the on position but do not have any connection between hot wire (red) and brown wire (to fusebox). I do have a question. Will a ignition switch from a xs650 fit ...

After looking at the wiring diagram at Daves Website (GREAT WEBSITE!) I think that there is something wrong with the key switch itself. It looks like it splits power off the switch to two different locations, one to the fuse box for the headlights, ignition, etc. and the other to the tail lights ...

I did check out the CD and will order one tonight. I will clean all the connectors tonight. In the meantime, since there is NOTHING working on this bike except the tail light when the key is turned to the ON position, there has to be a dropped connection somewhere between the switch and fuses (other ...

I did jumper trick on the starter and it does turn over strong. Is there a fusible link between key switch and the fuse panel for the ignition, headlight and instrument panel? If so, where should I look?
