My Yamaha XS 400 project bike *with pictures*

#1 Unread post by Stratus311 »

Just thought I'd show you guys some pics of my 1980 Yamaha XS 400 I got a couple years ago for $50.

Sorry about the size of the pictures. :D

It's still a work in progress. There are a few things I have to do like change handlebars, make a new seat pan, new grips/controls, etc. And I still can't decide if I like the tail light :x .

What do you guys think. Not bad for a $50 bike? :D

sweetness. i will assume it was not quite that shiny when you go it if someone let it go for $50.

start a blog here and keep us updated on the progress.

No it was veeeery ugly. I painted the whole thing. And not too well I might add. :D

Edit: Not my picture but a spitting image of what it looked like when I got it.

NICE

I kinda like the tail light how it is on the side.

Are you going to leave the bars like that though? Looks a bit uncomfortable. But hey if it works it works.

Mag7C: Thanks! I'm definitely not going to keep the bars like that. You are absolutely right, it is very uncomfortable. It's a temporary solution to some ugly bars. :D

jmillheiser: Thanks to you too. :D

MrGrompers: I've thought about it. But I'm not real sure what I think of the size of the tailight yet. It seems a little bigger than I expected once I got it on the bike. I may try to find a smaller one. :D

I bet this bike is going to look sharp when you’re done. I hope you’ll continue to add pics. I saw a 750 Spirit completely customized on Ebay last week. It took me back to those CB 750 chopper days. Great pics; I’m glad you shared.

Bikemaster make drag bars that would fit the look perfectly, and for around $16 shipped the price is right.
