He implied that there's no such thing as a bad cop, unless I'm mistaking him for someone else.

That of course is authoritarian garbage.
Some cops are good, and they should be rewarded handsomely, they are the ones who pursue justice.
Some cops are bad and they should be thrown in a cell with those they have oppressed, they are the ones who pursue power and their own pettiness.
No. You are wrong. I criticized you because you wished death upon police officers who YOU thought were "egotistical jerks". I told you that I was glad you aren't the one who gets to hand down judgement and determine who is a jerk and who isn't.

It's funny you should bring "pettiness" into this conversation. You seem to have no shortage of it.
We're the first ones to starve
We're the first ones to die
The first ones in line for that pie in the sky
But we're always the last
When the gravy's shared out
For the worker is working when the fat cat's about

Oh... and I still stand by my comment:

I hope you never need a cop, I, Fly. Seriously.

That sounds a lot closer to the thread I remember...
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

The problem isn't 'cops' per se, as simply being a cop isn't inherently a bad thing. It's just an occupation. People can be pr*cks and a-holes no matter what their profession, be it garbageman, CEO, or mailman...an a-hole is going to be an a-hole no matter what. Unfortunately, an a-hole with authority and a gun is going to be a REALLY BIG A-HOLE

Right.

What I've been trying to get across all this time was my original post which implied all cops were bad was wrong of me, a knee-jerk reaction brought on by experience with incompetent, avaricious cops.

It's unfortunate that @ssholes like those cast a shadow on the good work that so many law enforcement officers do, ones who use good judgement to serve justice rather than ones who cling to the rules in hopes of a promotion or filling their "quotas".

So I posted this to show my appreciation for the better half of law-enforcement, dudes who are risking their o-rings so we don't have psycho killers walking around.

I seem to recall saying something along the lines of,

"swallow your pride apologize and stop talking about it, and people will let it go." It took you a long time to do it, but I'm hoping this will turn around now.
