FAST CORNERING

I'd really like to find out the cornering limits of my bike - i.e. just how far I could lean it without it sliding away from under me...but how do you safely find out stuff like that - I've no desire to end up sliding into a ditch just so I can say "so that's how far I can push it before the tyres lose their grip". You guys got any suggestions about finding out the limits of a bike? (I've got a Honda Hornet 600...I believe you folks in the US call them Honda 599's)

The only way to find the limit is to ... well, find it. The safest way to do this is on a closed course, full leathers, etc. If you have good quality tires, it's almost sure that the bike can lean further than you can on the street. The question is not what the bike can do, it's probably more the conditions of the street.

If you don't want to go to a track find a huge empty parking lot that is clear of gravel etc and do laps going faster and faster in circles... by my house there is the Rutgers Athletic Center that has no cars in it and it is an enormous parking lot so I practiced riding/cornering in there... that was the first place I dragged my pegs on my last bike too

Many bikes’ pegs have feelers on the bottom of them that will scrape the pavement before the peg catches also.

Or, you could have Fixed pegs like on an older BMW ... But that's cool, cuz the Cylinder heads deck out before the pegs anyway

My son and I do a lot of practice in the parking lot, we have a place we can ride and about $140 in Wal-Mart cones. I have found out first hand how far you can lean a bike over.
