My Aunt has one with her groups patch on the back, and about a million little pins on the front for certain events she has been to, or how many years she has been a member of the club.

I don't think they look that great, but it's kinda neat to have all those memories on one peice of clothing.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Just for the record, I’m not “trashing” Harley bikers; hell, I wish I had a Harley myself. The reality is whether one is willing to admit it or not that “Harley bikers” are in a class of their own. I’m not trying to generalize, but I’ve defiantly gotten the cold shoulder in the past because I wasn’t riding a Harley. I know not all Harley bikers are that way, but every bushel has its rotten apples. In my eyes all bikers are created equal, but not everyone sees things so clearly.

Just remember the ones you typically want to stay away from are the ones with the 1% patch on their vest. Thats pretty much openly admitting that they are real outlaw bikers(as in the bad type).

I have never been a vest wearer but I looked for one today on eBay. When I go to sportbike events, everyone has on their club's 'colors' with their logo and street name on it. I'm not in a club but I wanted a vest with my show's name on it, so I'd look like everybody else.

The answer is tradition.

vests are more of a cruiser thing? Sportikers dont do the MC thing, and I have never seen a sportbiker wear any sort of club colors. I have seen sportbike clubs that have patches but the patch is usually small and worn somewhere on the front of the persons jacket (like a sponsor patch on racing leathers).

the only people i see wearing vests are club riders like "Ruff Ryders", "Cocky R(i/y)ders"....etc

and yea, i don't think there is much use for it, just to represent your club i guess....and to look cool.

Around here there are several predominately sport bike clubs sporting full colors . Reckon it all depends upon the area where one lives.
I have always worn a vest whether or not I was in a club . I like the comfort and it does serve a purpose for me because I utilize the pockets .

I'd say just for 'style' and something to sew their patches on. Earrings, tattoos and designs on shirts/clothing isn't very useful either. I guess my point is these people who wear vests like how they look :P
Once again Earwig is the voice of reason and it's nice to see others trying to stop this from becoming another Harley bashing thread

Since it's rare for my arms to get cold, I'll throw on the vest on a chilly ride thats not quite cold enought for the jacket. I don't belong to a MC and didn't put the HOG stuff on the back. However, there are patches on the front, one from a HD dealership in Newmarket England (my birthplace) a small HOG ptach and a few pins from the rallys and toy runs I've done. They're decoration and conversation pieces for an otherwise plain leather vest.

It seems leather vests for most riders are a way to record and document who they are and their riding experiences. I've seen all types of cruiser bikers wear vests, they're particular popular with the Goldwing crowd (darn posers...jk)

Its just one of those things inherent to that type of bike, just as the sportbikes have this strange obsession with everything matching down to the color co-ordination. Nothing posing about that I'm sure

That's it, it's like a scrap book you carry around with you, and that you don't need to take pictures for. My Aunt loves hers, my Uncle refuses to wear one.
