Which bike sounds best for me??

#1 Unread post by road_rash_33 »

Hello, :frusty:
I am looking for a bike that would best suit my needs. There are two different bike I am looking at, the GS500f and the S40. I would use them to comute from home to work. The roads are a mix from dirt, hwy, and some town. I havent ridden in about 16 years. I do not need alot of power just something that would go 70 to 80 mph. I have read some reviews on both bikes. There doesnt seem to be any deciding factors on either bike. I am wanting something that is cheep, easy to handle, good gas milage, and looks good. Any help would be great.
Thanks for your help.

You might consider a BMW F650GS. New cost about $8900 but you can buy used for a lot less. Here's their info web site.

The honda Rebel is only $3000 brand new. If your under 6' tall it would probably meet your posted requirements. It also gets over 70 mpg, has cheap insurance and low maintenance costs.

I would say under 5'5 for the rebel.. The girls at the MSF thought it very small. Im just at 6'0, and I could barely sit on the thing. Cheap? yes, Reliable? yes. 70-80mph.... not if you weigh more than 150, and if it does get up to that, you are very close to redline.

Between the two you listed, the S40 would be more comfortable for commuting. Im a fan of suzuki's, even though I dont own one. My friend has a boulevard S50, and it is great IMO.

Sounds like you have to choose more whether you want a sport bike or a cruiser... Go sit on them and see if they are right for you. I personally wouldnt want to commute on a sport bike, but a lot of people love them.

Check with your insurance company to see if one would be cheaper than the other as well...

Thanks for all your advise. I think the rebel would be to small given it is only 250cc. I went to a dealer and sat on the GS500f it didnt feel to bad the position I was sitting in was alot like the same position when I ride my pedel powered mountain bike and after riding the mnt bike 22 miles the other day I think I am going to go with the more upright S40. Now all I have to do is talk the dealer down on the price.:starwars: :D Oh, and take the riding safety course.
Thanks again to all that posted.
