That's probably something I'll have to try. When I remade the wiring harness, I couldn't remember which coil wire went to which. When I looked at the manual, it doesn't really state specifics. I'll give that a go and see if it works. What bugs me is before I pulled the bike completely apart, it ran fine. I drained the carbs and they basically sat on a shelf for a few months. I had even taped over the openings to keep it clean. :(

Also, looking over the specs in my manual last night, I noticed that my main jet size is off as well as the starter jet size. In the manual, it shows the main jet should be a 145 and the starter air jet should be a 45 but the main jet that's in there is a 135(which is what was used in the XS360) and the starter air jet is a 55. At first, I thought maybe I had carbs from the XS360 but it has the right throttle plate in there which is a 135. Could it be that somebody rejetted it for my altitude? I'm in Colorado Springs at an altitude of about 6,000 feet. But I still can't see why one carb works and the other doesn't. I'm so confused. :(

if you will look at the float bowl on the carb that aint hitting you will see a hole in the middle of the flange where a brass pipe in the carb body goes in it when you install bowl.inside that hole at the bottom is a tiny hole that lets gas in that cavity.that is your idling circuit.the tiny hole gets stopped up easily and no fuel at low speed.take a piece of very thin wire and clean out this hole from inside the bowl.fill little cavity up with water and dig around with wire.when water will run out gas will run in.then it will idle.the tiny hole is angled so dont try to go straight in.

Thanks 9000white. I'll check that out too. My next step was to boil the carbs. I have to order the rebuild kit first though. :D

dig the crud out of that little hole before you boil them.boiling wont remove the junk in there.

So I've cleaned that hole you were talking about and nothing really came out that I saw. I also took a can of carb cleaner and with the little straw on the can, I sprayed cleaner into all the small orifices. There was actually one passage on each carb that seemed to "open up" after that. The passsage I'm referring to is in the mouth of the carb opposite the starter air jet. It's a real small hole that leads to the main jet. I can't find any reference to it so I have no idea what it is, but it's clean now. :D

Alright, so I finally got the thing running on both sides now. It did the same thing for about the first minute when I started it again(running on one bank) but then it was firing on all 2 cylinders!!

Now for my last question: When I start it, I can pretty much start it without the choke if I hit the gas right away. It seems to idle ok but sometimes just drops low if it is just sitting. The throttle response off-idle is quick and crispy. BUT, if I put ANY load on it(ie: 1st gear down the driveway), the idle shoots way up when I pull in the clutch. After a couple seconds it finally settles back again but even if I Ride it down the street, just putting along, you can feel the idle pulling you along. Now, I did pre-synch the carbs before putting them back on. I haven't had a chance to fully synch them yet(that's my plan for tonight), but could this be causing the strange idle? Is it still running lean? Would out of synch carbs cause the idle to shoot up and then settle back down after a few seconds? Thanks again for any help. I DO appreciate it. :mrgreen:

Still running a bit lean. Richen the idle mix (The little "hidden screws") a tad (1/4 turn at a time) and see where that gets you. It's all part of the procedure for synchronization anyway. Just synch the carbs.

Yeah I'll try getting the carbs synched today and see what happens. It used to run great before I dismantled the bike. I guess I must have really thrown things out of whack. :-)

SUCCESS!!!! After a long hard road of diagnosing a carb issue, I finally discovered my problem. I had a bad air leak where the carb boot mounts to the head. I had it running with the mixture screw way out on the right carb and started spraying with WD40 around....well...everything. Finally when I shot it at the gasket area, on the inner most part of the head, it picked right up. I pulled the carb boots, replaced the gaskets, let it sit over night, and then fired it up and synched the carbs and now it runs super sweet!!! :D

I just want to thank everybody who has helped me diagnose the issue. I know I asked alot of questions but somebody always had a reply. :D Thanks again folks!!
