would regular leather boots have prevented this? I bought mine at a police specialty store, so they look kinda like the stuff SWAT wear.

Without knowing exactly what kind of impact this guy's foot sustained, it's difficult to know if any kind of boot would have helped.

What to look for in a boot: full ankle coverage, support, and armor for impact protection. Leather touring boots and the boots SWAT teams wear have most of these factors covered, except for the armor/impact protection.

oh man...that looks incredibly painful.

And yeah, I'm sure he's tough but I'm also sure his body went into immediate shock after that bad of an injury. Your body uses pain to tell you that you are injured or you are being injured. If the injury is bad enough, your body wont bother to send nearly as many signals. I cut myself very very badly about a year ago...1/2" deep, 1.5" long, through 3 tendons and an artery all the way to the bones in my wrist and it barely hurt. I just sat there looking at my wrist going "wow, this is really weird"

STILL tho, im sure it hurt like crazy when he did it, not to mention I have no clue how they could have recovered that bad of a break, if I had to guess it would have been amputated.
