Looking for a specific headlight assembly for 1980 CX500C

#1 Unread post by hollywoodb »

I have a 1980 CX500C (verified correct year & model)...

However, I'm not sure if it has the original fork or headlight assembly. I need to replace the entire headlight assembly (housing, bezel, but lens & bulb are OK).

My bike is identical to this:

However it has has this exact headlight assembly:

Notice the signal flasher mounting... I have signal flashers that mount into the brackets & headlight shroud as in the second image as well.

I believe the first image is correct, however the headlight brackets seem molded to the fork and I'd rather not go through the trouble. I would rather just find the headlight assembly shown in the second image for now. (easy bolt-on fix) After a bit more experience riding (after getting the bike to run right) I may look at getting it closer to stock, but for now I just need the headlight.

Also, both models are listed as 1980 Honda CX500s... Mine is a custom, but perhaps it has had the fork/lights replaced with deluxe parts? I can't seem to find enough info, but on the web I've found 1980 CX500s with either headlight configuration, yet no clues as to why. Either way, I'd like to find the headlight shown in the second picture for now, if possible.

The easiest way to do this is to get it from a japanese bike junk yard. Or check e-bay!

Yeah, I know of a big bike graveyard south of the Twin Cities, near Jordan, MN

Been there many times... only problem now is I've moved about 350 miles NNW of where I used to live in Minneapolis and there isn't much around here.

The only other thing I can think of (Top of my head) is a chopper supply house (Like J&P Cycles). Check to see if they have a side-mount headlight kit in the proper diameter for your application.
