Why do they bother
So the dealership demo days are upon us again.And this is a list of demo bike availble for a demo ride GL1800, ST1300, VTX1300S, VT750 Aero, CBR600RR, Big Ruckus.When I say ride a mean about hour riding in a group.Not that bad but why do they pick these models.No Standards no Dual sports.Mind you I am tempted to go just to give the big ruckus ago.
Surley a Honda demo day should include there complete model line.

I went to the Goldwing homecoming last year in Marysville Ohio. They had a demo ride sign up, but you had to be there about 8am to get on the list. I might try that this year. They had Goldwings, VTX1800s, a couple smaller cruisers, and a bunch of scooters (Silverwing comes to mind). Yeah, I might go sign up early and try a Goldwing or I think they even had an ST1300. The ideas sounds better all the time. I will report back. I think this one is on July or August.

When and where is the ride Matt? I wouldn't mind trying out the new Wing, but that would give Buzz something a whole lot bigger to worry about.....
Seriously, I would like to try the 1800 Wing. I've ridden my dads 1200 alot and only had his 1500 around the block, but I heard lots of good about the 1800s. I also followed one through the Rogers Pass that was hauling a$$ and it seemed to look pretty solid in the turns. Not that I am anywhere near old enough to buy one mind you.......

I dont' know about this actually. I think you sign a waiver that you have coverage for you on other bikes. I know my insurance covers me for certains situation - like a rental car for example. I never purchase the extra insurance when I rent a car because I have insurance that comes with my regular car insurance. I didn't realize this until I had an accident with a rental car out of town and found that insurance took up the slack where the rental contract didn't cover me.iwannadie wrote:how do they cover insurance on those rides? i mean what if a kid with no exp gest on the cbr and eats it bad, do you sign over liability? do they hold you to any damages you cause to the bikes. do they offer you an isurance to take like a rental car?
Also, about a guy wrecking a CBR with no exprerience - I don't know for sure, but I know they have no sports bikes. I also think they must have some sort of contract that you agree to that says you will behave. I know demo I've heard of you ride in a group with other trial riders, so there is little chance to misbehave anyway without getting removed from the bike.

They generally make you sign a waiver that you will cover their $1000 deductable on their insurance if you damage the bike. There was a video floating around the net of a kid here in Calgary who dumped a Ducati 749 driving it out of the shop for a group test ride! It really has to test the resolve of the dealers to even offer test rides after something like thatiwannadie wrote:how do they cover insurance on those rides? i mean what if a kid with no exp gest on the cbr and eats it bad, do you sign over liability? do they hold you to any damages you cause to the bikes. do they offer you an isurance to take like a rental car?

Blackfoot motors in Calgary has you sign a waiver as well as giving them an imprint of your credit card with a $500 charge. If you bring back the bike undamaged, they rip up the cc slip in front of you.
As for no sportbikes? when I went to the Suzuki Demo Days last year, 80% of the bikes were sportbikes, with a selection of three cruisers and the Burgmann 650 scooter.

a quick check online shows the following demo days
Bow Cycle - Honda Demo Days -> May 13/14
Blackfoot - BMW Demo Day -> May 5
- Triumph Demo Day -> May 21
Revoluzione - Ducati/Aprilia Demo Day -> TBD (early May, call or email to reserve a spot)
Turple Bros in Red Deer doesn't list any demo days on their website (pathetic site, really)
Blackfoot last updated their site 2 1/2 weeks ago, so their info is likely out of date as well.
